well it depends on a few factors. which color iridium your talking about and who makes the sheild. For instance suomy makes a multi colored iridium that comes with the extreme's. looks cool as shit but does nothing for blocking sunlight.then their normal iridiums are darker. I had the blue suomy iridium it was much better for cutting out the glare but still not super dark. then there is the dark visor which is going to be the darkest for most helmets. but as with agv they make their race iridium visors using a dark tinted visor and then putting the iridium coating over that which makes that visor the darkest by far....

 

Since it sounds like you know your shit, do you happen to know if the silver mirrored hjc help with cutting down glare better than their dark smoke. Here are the pics of the two:

 

i vote the dark smoke
the mirror ones are ok but they scratch too easy
if your area is really sunny that the dark smokes will suit you better
the mirrored shield i had on one of my shoeis was just bad

 

mirrored, which i have, works well since it does reflect* the light like mirrors... i have no comparison since i dont have a dark visor.

overall it works well for me.

In most normal aplications a dark smoke visor is going to reduce more light and glare then a iridium visor.

 

I have a mirror on a my KBC and I have no complain to do about it.

I wash it with my hands and gentle soap. I don't have scratch on it only few spots due to rocks when I follow cars and things like that. But it's far to be disturbing. After one season my mirror visor look in great shape.

 

I only have experience with Shoei, their iridium shields were bad for glare, the dark smoke are darker than the iridium and have no glare issues

i have a shoei with the mirror shield. for daytime its dark enough to block light, you do get a minor amount of inside reflection of your face and does a decent to far job blocking out the sun. the night is good too where you don't have to carry an extra shield all the time if your out all day. for me, i personally like it. haven't tried the dark tint visor, but some guys i ride with can't see out of those at night which is a pain in the ass or they swap to clear for night time.

 

I didn't like using mirrored sheilds on my Scorpion helmet. I've noticed that I can see a reflection of my face on the inside part of the sheild when it started to get dirty. It was very distracting after a while. Also they scratch very easy and you have to be very careful when cleaning them. I didn't really noticed which one blocked more of the sun but if I had to chose from mirrored or tinted, I would go with the tinted.

 

I have Clear, Smoke, and Dark Smoke for my Shoei. I also bought Dark Smoke for the GF's HJC, and I have clear for my AGV.

I wear teh Dark Smoke on my Shoei ALL the time. At night, I can see just fine out of it (and I have a light sensitivity thing with my eyes) and during a sunny day it really helps block the Sun glare out. You can almost look directly at the sun with the Dark Smoke on. (Almost)

 

personally im getting a dark smoke for the daylight hours and my stock clear for nite... shark visors are SO EASY to swap its nuts...

 

I like the looks of the mirror visors better but you have to worry about them getting scratched up (rocks hit it, etc)

The smoked looks almost as cool but doesnt scratch as easily. So you make the decision

But I had my mirrored screen for 1 season and tried to baby it, and it got scratched

i have the dark smoke for shoei, and it's great during the day... at nite, i don't have complaints either, i don't think i have ridden ONCE with the stock clear shield, that sucker still has the sticker on it, i took it off right after purchase and swapped it for the dark smoke... then again, my car has limo tint all around so i think i'm just used to being in darkness...

 

This thread makes me want to buy a silver or gold mirrored visor for my Arai.

Anyone have experience with Arai mirrored?
How bright is the gold? Pics make it look pretty dull compared to AGV.

Yep, you see what I mean, the Arai mirror doesn't seem to have much color in it.

The Arai silvers look good though.

I have the silver mirror for my HJC, I like it because it gives you more visibility at night vs the dark smoke. So if your ride runs into dusk or night you dont have to worry about not seeing sh*t. If I know I will be out for a day ride I will run the dark smoke because it blocks more light.

I have the clear, silver mirrored, and dark smoke for the HJC. I liked the look of the mirrored shield but as most have said in this post it had way too much reflection inside and once its started to chip scratch it was HORRIBLE. You can see every scratch and it very distracting. I now have a dark smoke and I love it. It's great. Plenty of protection form the light and very little reflection.

I find the iridums are really easy to use at night. Its the dark visors that are the hardest.
