1st gear wheelies: How easy is it to loop the bike?

I have always been able to pick the front up in first gear, with the bounce method. However, I don't hold the throttle at all so the wheelies are really short, plus I rack myself on the gas tank on the landing. The question I have is, how easy is it to loop the bike in a first gear wheelie? If I hold the throttle a little longer, does the bike just keep coming up until I fall backwards, or is it hard to loop the bike?

First of all, you don't need to bounce the R6 up in first gear. Take your RPM's around 3.5 to 4 and let off the throttle, then snap the throttle open again. SHE WILL COME UP.

Secondly, don't worry about looping your bike, you are actually not as high as you think, you'll get way to scared and let off the throttle before you hit the balancing point.

What I classify the BOUNCE METHOD is, is go in 2nd gear, rev it high, stand up slightly and bounce your bike down, while at the same time give the throttle like hell and you'll do a second gear wheelie. Takes PRACTICE, ALOT OF PRACTICE.:bang

That is the bounce method

How easy is it to loop the 6 in first? As easy as not letting off the gas when you pass the balance point. But the balance point is probably much higher than you think, esp on an R6. I would lay off clutch wheelies in first for awhile, cuz its easier to loop that way, than bouncing it if your learning. Remember its all in the timing like a golf swing and not much muscle is required.:thumbsup

It was too hard for me to learn wheelies in 2nd. Couldn't get it up at first even with viagra. I had to start bouncing in 1st. Once you get used to them you can bring them up at 5-10mph and not have you bike screaming at the rev limiter. Its twitchy but it also responds fast (if you go beyond the BP) to let off your gas. In 2nd or 3rd you have more stable wheelies but you have less throttle deceleration control for looping out, and have to become efficient at using the rear brake. If your stunting alot(which I'm not) you really aren't worried about wearing out tires with wheelies IMO....burnouts are another story:)

Re: ?

Maybe I wasn't that clear. When I first started riding wheelies on street, 2nd was hard. I had to start doing first gear bounce ups cuz my timing sucked in second. And as I said, I don't really use the brake with 1st gear wheelies cuz the throttle has such a dramatic(twitchy effect) on the bike that its usually enough to control your bike by just letting off. The problem I have with really slow first gear wheelies is that you get a lot of side-to-side instability/wobble that you have to correct/fight. Faster wheelies are more stable (no sideways pull except wind)due to physics.

Second and third gear wheelies, I usually actually give a little bounce and slip the clutch with my index finger depending on how fast I'm going and how much torque I need. You follow me?

Re: ?

yea i can wheelie pretty good just sounded like you were using the rear brake for 1st i was going to call bs :) i think there is more pull to left or right with higher speed wheelies then 1st. I dont do many 1st gear anymore cause i cant hold them up near as long. keep up the good work :thumbsup

Re: ?

:thumbsup We used to play a game and see who could pull a wheelie from the slowest speed on the 600s. Obviously a wheelie from a standstill is the slowest you could do. Guys would stop, start to lose balance, then try to wheelie. They would end up launching the front wheel all crooked with a leg flailing for balance. Of course decent stunters have no problem going from a dead stop or stoppie to a wheelie etc. Our "dedicated" stunter friends would just laugh at our antics. But most of those bastards also have their bikes ridiculously geared at 5up rear 2down front.Check out this dude hoopty's goof from the CO spoprtbike club. It wasn't even his R6.

Re: ?

if your balls are hitting the tank when you set it down, your are probably slamming it down. Instaed of letting off throttle, just ease off it alot. It will come down, then next time ease off a little less, and so on untill you can hold it. However, in 1st, you wont be able to hold it long.

Re: ?

Sorry,

To me the Bounce method is when you actually have to JUMP on your bike to compress the forks and springs.

When I am in first gear and left off the throttle to compress the forks then crack the shit out of it to bring it up, I am not hopping on my pegs to try to compress them.

Bounce method to me and various others mean, BOUNCE, HOP or JUMP on the pegs to compress, not left off the throttle.

Sorry, but that's what I know.

Re: ?

You don't need to apologize gsmpsn;) I generally refer to the bounce method as any wheelie performed with suspension rebound instead of a clutch. Even if you don't bounce on your rearsets when you snap your throttle off then on it causes suspension compression and rebound thus lifting the tire....In conclusion who gives a flying fook what we call it if its fun.............

Its not an endo its a stoppie! No its an endo! Who cares.

...

it's too easy to loop it in first. i sometimes do my highchairs in first and come close to loopin all the damn time. since you want to learn wheelies stay in second and learn to clutch it up. you don't need to clutch it up but it's much safer to wheelie at 25mph then at 50+. just give that fucker some gas and catch her with your brake. also, id say learn doing standups. much easier to find balance.

keep everything stock. nothing shows your skill better then being on a stock 600 doing no-handed 2mph wheelies!!!!

good luck.
