I can't get the link to work but if you go to Yamaha's site, click products then choose the R6. Then on the left click specifications and from there you can compare the R6 to the 600R. Take a look at the specs. Heres the link to Yammy's home page www.yamaha-motor.com/

The R6 is a much more race oriented bike while the 600R is much more tame and better suited for daily street riding.

Hey, I had a YZF600R Thundercat when I lived in Japan, and I still think it's a great bike! It doesn't look as cool, or handle quite as well as the R6, but it's still a great all around bike. Light years ahead of the Can-O-tuna anyway.

i used to have a 96 yzf600r and I liked it a lot. I think the 94 yzf600r won supersport when it first came out too.

It's a pretty heavy bike and is a pig in the parking lot. it is pretty easy to learn on as a beginner bike and it has decent power, i'd estimate at least 85hp at the wheels.

It sucks that yamaha hasn't upgraded the yzf600 to compete with the likes of the f4i or sv650/bandits...

great learning bike

I had a 2000 yzf600r and it was a great bike.. started everytime and was pretty fast. It was comfortable on long rides and rode the twistys fine.. I have now upgraded to a 2000 R6 and love it too. The 600r is a good starter bike because the seating position is more upright and easier to learn on. The 6 is definately FASTER !!!:metal

but don't get me wrong, the R6 can pull some quality tail...just make sure she's under 150 or every time she leans over to scratch her ass you'll be dragging an unintentional knee in your jeans...

but yes, both are good bikes...it just depends on what kind of riding you want to do....the katana thing is pretty accurate.......... oink

Thundercat has a detuned R6 engine. They took all the best bits away from an R6 and were left with the Thundrcat...still a good beginner bike and I nearly had to buy one but fortune struck me lucky and i could afford the R6

Rumor is that Yamaha is tearing down the 600R mill next season in favor of its heir-apparent, the FZ6

Each bike has it's purpose. It's kind of like comparing 2 different types of cars. one made for gas mileage,touring, and passengers. The other made for high speed turns, unreal acceleration, and bad ass looks. I have a 600r and I love it. my roomate's got an R6 and he loves it too.
