are jackets with speed humps worth the extra money?
do they make that big of a difference say from 100-130 ish or on days with strong head winds?
what about for going around 160+ i can usualy keep my head stable and low enough for my healmet to touch the tank?
i just need some input on this hump thing, i see some suits have one and others don't just wondering why?

it is for looks only. It offers no additional protection excpet for a padding and has no aerodynamic bennefits

as far as i know, the hump is specifically designed for aerodynamics....some people call it an aero hump...

it allows the wind to flow smoothly from your helmet to the back of your bike...usually the air flows along the back of the helmet and hits your shoulder blades and i guess causes disturbance to the flow...

but with an aero hump, it creates a smoother flow from your helmet to the hump, to your tail bone and then the hump on the tail of the bike....usually you can draw a straightish ling from top of your helmet to tail of bike....

and i think it might serve the purpose of avoiding the helmet snapping too far back breaking yoru neck, but i think that's unproven...that's just my theory..
if there was no advantage to it what so ever i don't see why it would have been made. and i don't think all the pro riders would wear them either

Agreed...Otherwise it would just weight 1/2 a pound more...For no reason at that...
For the "street" there is no advantage. You don't need the extra 2mph it provides above 160mph, cause you aren't dragging someone to the line for the win. Hence no advantage for the street.
And on just the jacket, the hump is so small and doesn't go down the length of the back, it's unlikely to provide any real aerodynamic benefits anyway.
I love humping.

Oh and I love the way the humps look on jackets, like the A* SMX, or Spidi NRG among others. I know it doesn't serve a real advantage on the street, but neither do many of the little cosmtic mods we do to our bikes. I just like the look, imo.
it looks cool to me, plus the suits it is found on usually have other high-end features that make it worth buying
looks great, for sure. But If I had to pay an extra $150-$200 for that in my jacket, hell no.... but if i found it on the net with a close out, for dirt cheap them yes.
I always thought it provided two real purposed. One was to act as a "shcok absorber" in case of a crash and then two, to help take away some of the draft of the wind going over ones shoulders (provides a more fluid flow of wind). :shrug
The draft thing is only if your racing in triple digits.

The back protection...you'd really get more protection from a standard back protector.
hump is actually worse for protection....if u fall on it...then all the impact is being absorbed at that one spot. its like putting a softball up ur shirt and falling down.....all the impact will go to that raised area.

Hope your talking about the track...

On topic though- I thought it was for aerodynamics. Ive yet to find out though.
