I just replaced my front brake pads. Three of the old pads had a significant amount of pad left, probably 1/3 left. The fourth pad, however, was ground down to the base and on one end had even corroded into the base a small amount.

Is this unevenness of wear normal or is it something I should be worried about?

Also- upon installation of the new pads, i now stop with only a small amount of pressure on the brake lever. In fact, unless I brake moderately hard, my rear brake lights will not even light. This is a little bit of a problem...Is there any way to adjust my brake so there is a little free play? I don't want anyone rear-ending me when I'm stopping casually.

The worn pad is from those caliper pistons not retracting when you're off the brakes. A caliper rebuild should fix it. As for the rest, did you bleed any brake fluid out of the system when you installed the new pads?

You should probably clean the pistons in the calipers...

They should wear down evenly... assuming your forks arent bent. :p
