Good to know. Did you buy a new OEM gasket too? I am still going to have to say that custom mapping will give you the most gains from any airflow related mods.
i havent bought the oem gasket yet but ill throw the $4 down here in a min. the superflares are in high demand and he said theyd be two weeks. all mark was saying about custom map is that its more for the efficiency of the ENGINE itself and not for the efficiency of its components. its not bad to map these things out but its sometimes leads to overkill or is unnecessary because to the abilities of the average street bike tuner, all the gains are in our head. remember, the power of suggestion is a motherf*cker. most of us "tuners" think we NEED these custom maps but... "the truth is a SIMPLE map that fits your likings is all you need the best tuning doesnt come from a dyno- it comes from your brains and your ass!"; 15yr head motorcycle technician at my yamaha dealership (who i also spoke to today). he also said; "i get paid to much to sit on your bike, test ride it, run a dyno after dyno, plug in a bs map and charge you an arm n a leg for such bs you can do yourself. most other custom dyno tune shops dont know any better than you may about how to smooth fine a map!"pesticide said:Good to know. Thanks for this post! I had email chat with Marc Salvisberg a few days ago and I was trying to find a user that matched what he told me. It think I am just going to trust him.hesaves0211 said:with all this "v-stack and +4 ignition adv" threads goin around i had to seek professional advice. i called Mark Salvisberg himself, the head honcho and mechanical engineer for factory pro!
mark said; "no custom mapping is required for v-stacks by any brand or manufacturer!!! there is no reason anyone should need a v-stack pc3 map from manufacturer or a dyno custom. cuz generally all custom dyno mapping does is run what the engine wants (hense smoother throttle responce). when it comes to tuning, tune for the best air:fuel ratio and youll find your hp."
"v-stacks, air filter, +ignition advancer and exhaust are your core mods to trigger the best air:fuel ratio"; he later exclaimed. speaking of which he personally designed the "superflare" and beat his buddy "graves" to the patent which was a big achievement for him. as stated, custom mapping does more for your engine responsiveness over power.
i just purchased the superflares and +4 factory pro ignition advancer for a nice discounted price. 15% off for r6mn members!!!
I guess the gains that you get AFTER you get a new map tuned to your bike are just make believe. They are just putting numbers down on a piece of paper for the hell of it...hesaves0211 said:with all this "v-stack and +4 ignition adv" threads goin around i had to seek professional advice. i called Mark Salvisberg himself, the head honcho and mechanical engineer for factory pro!

I think that what they are getting at is that getting a custom tune will see FURTHER increases over the ones you will get from the stuff alone. However, your efficiency will go down because you will now be adding more fuel to the air/fuel mixture.FrkyMnky1487 said:I guess the gains that you get AFTER you get a new map tuned to your bike are just make believe. If this was really the case, then people wouldnt be seeing a difference when they go from a generic map for something close to their mods, to a specific map for their bike. And its not something that is +1, +2 hp, its +5,+10hp.

I guess the question, then, is will it be lean enough to hurt you in any way?pesticide said:Pretty much. Would you rather run a proper mixture or run lean?
Lean is bad.
bingo. but a custom map isnt bad IF you the dude knows what hes doing! which most dont from what im told. like i said they just plug in a map and play a little. and whether theyre successful or half-ass it, the truth is dont tune for power if your air:fuel is gonna be outta wack! and thats what many people (dyno tuners) fail to understand. cuz people like ourselves see numbers in the form of hp and thats all that "mr. Benjamin" cares about which doesnt mean that hp will be truly effective as if it where tuned for the most efficient air:fuel ratio. PERIOD.pesticide said:Pretty much.
