The President of Vertical Scope is Rob Laidlaw. Im thinking he is with the same Laidlaw (family/group) that my fathers waste management company competed with in Dallas. This is odd that I seem to be bumping into Laidlaw, Inc. again. (We competed against Laidlaw Waste Systems.)

There was an attempt from Dallas based USA Waste to aquire Laidlaw but I believe it was blocked and Laidlaw was aquired by Allied Waste.

This family seems to just consolidate, then sell. As you can see, it looks like the young Rob Laidlaw is following in his family's footsteps of consolidation.

History
Laidlaw began in 1924 when founder Robert Laidlaw created Laidlaw Transit, a trucking service company in Ontario, Canada.

Or maybe im just crazy.... :shrug

My name is Jim. If you feel a personal introduction would help then I'm fine with that. Why don't you PM me and tell me what you want to know and I'll post it for all?

Are you sure?

Laidlaw began in 1924 when founder Robert Laidlaw created Laidlaw Transit, a trucking service company in Ontario, Canada. (They got into all kinds of stuff including solid waste disposal)

So our new owner is the son of a trash-monger? That's very funny, in a slightly ironic sort of way.
Well im not sure if he is or not, but I have run across a business from Canada, called Laidlaw, that consolidates things. (Like all of these message boards)

Also, the trash business is far more complex than most people think.

I can't imagine the reaction hasn't been much better from any other board... Jim has to be one of the most hated people, sucks being the "face" of the laidlaw group to all of us :lol

OK first Rob has no direct relation to "the Laidlaw family" you are referencing. Wrong family...simple. So, I'm not the face of that group because we have nothing to do with them in any way. If he did there would be no reason to deny it. You are simply barking up the wrong tree on this one.

The reaction of every community is different and overall, my reputation among the communities I manage is very positive.

i don't get why people are so angry over this. it's a business deal. one person sold an ASSET to another person. it happens all the time. you're acting like high schoolers who get all pissed off when a local band signs on a big label, 'cause now they're "sell-outs." no shit. it's how they put food on the table.

i agree, the new site looks like absolute ass. to me, it's unwieldly. i think it needs a visual overhaul, BIG-TIME. but really, the ads don't bother me, as they appear all to be MC-related, at least, and i can tune them out anyway.

but to actually be PISSED OFF at the new owner is ridonkulous. he's/they're doing what he/they DO. i.e., buying potentially profitable websites. and being pissed off at och is, to me, equally ridiculous. it was his property, and he can do with it what he wants. sure, if you're posting from a communist or socialist nation, maybe you can go ahead and be pissed. but if you're a capitalist, it's ridiculous to complain about THE SALE, because it's just capitalism. which is a good thing.

now, to complain about the LAYOUT is a totally different thing. but getting this out of control about THE TRANSACTION doesn't make much sense, if you think about it.

I agree, we cannot be mad at VS. But your logic about Och sucks. We have every right to be pissed about his lack of communication and his selling us out. Which is what he did. We were not his "property" regardless of what the paperwork said.

just making an observation... let me rephrase

You are the face of the "new" board and there can't be many communities very happy about it, therefore I'm sure you get a lot of abuse and hear a lot of criticism... I have worked for some hated companies and it did nothing for my morale... I know you're just trying to live like the rest of us so no animosity from me, at least not towards you.
