removing tank pads?

590 Views 9 Replies 7 Participants Last post by  Mr. Azim
hey im just shootin the shit before i go ahead and try this. but i plan on replacing my tank pad/sticker what ever the hell you want to call it. i plan on carefully peeling it off and then applyin a non destructive "goo-off" gell to remove any other film. is there any other proper way that i should do this? does this damage the enamel on my tank? i imagine that there will be a slight silhouette of where the tank guard was.

Use a heat source such as a hair-dryer as well to help loosen the adhesive...
Sometimes if you heat the sticker up with a hairdryer slightly it makes it easier to remove and it depends on how much sun fade your bike has for the markings or where it was......
heat it and then use a piece of fishing line to cut between the tank and the pad. then remove with your choice of goo gone

yea not shit i dont know why i didnt think of the heat gun but thats a definite as for the fishing line thats ingenious. will do.
thats how we take off the emblems on cars. so i figured a tank pad is close
+1 on the fishing line and heat source.... Just wear a leather glove. I learned the hard way having to many beers and try to take molding and emblems off a truck... STUPID because i had cuts on the outside of my plams.. But a few more beers I forgot about them!
dont use goof off its too hash fro the paint use the goo gone, and heat

this goo off is a more gentle product than what you may be thinking off. i know of one goo off out there that will jack some shit up if your not careful
i used lighter fluid to remove the residue left from the factory warning stickers, no damage, marks (and i waited 2-3 days after to make sure there was no damage)
