i dont really know a whole lot about rear sets so i have some questions. what is the point of buying aftermarket rear sets? what is something you should look for when buying new(better) ones? what are some good brands and why?

depends on your goals...

Some get them for looks, others for the adjustability, others to move the pegs up and out of the way for the track.

Looks, adjustbility, individually replaceable parts, better build quality(lots have ball bearings), tighter tolerances for more positive shifts.

I upgraded for looks and the added clearance, I just did a pair of Vortex and they are real nice and feel solid compared to the factory sets
