Raising front end?

1290 Views 9 Replies 8 Participants Last post by  europamotorsports
I need to put on some new tires on the 6 and have a rear pitbull stand no stand at all for the front. What would be the best way to lift the front of the bike? I was thinking having 2 friends lift the front off the ground while i put jack stands under the forks? any help would be appreciated.

^WTF?!?
anyways, once your bike is on the rear stand, you can use a small automobile jack under the exhaust to lift the front of the bike. You might want to remove your lower fairing to do it.
while the bike is on the rearstand, get a couple of friends to lift the bike up from the front forks. Then put jack stands under the frame sliders.

...or get a front stand :)

+1

and +1 to the wtf????

idk what that guy was talking about.

but using a car jack on the headers is very effective and save and quick
or one last option......

if you have a garage with Rafters....(studs in the ceiling)

just toss some tie downs or rope up and over.. lift the front end of the bike up by the clip ons....... probably the safest way to get it down without riskin knockin the bike off the jack stands or jack
^^^ yup, mine is hanging off like that while I'm fiddling with the front break. $10 racheting tie-down is all it took.
or do what I did before I had stands:

raise it in your backyard by using a tie down/ratchet thing from a tree. Ghetto but works.

the second poster was referring to raising the forks to accomodate 70series tires versus the 60 that the 99-04's had.
so i place a jack under the actual header pipe itself? wont that crush the pipe?
there is a plate underneath the 4 in 2 exhaust set up. (ie 4 pipe turn into 2 pipes)

I would recommend you put some 2x4's underneath the forks once you raise them, because its not stable enough with a rear stand and a jack underneath the exhaust.
