R6 50th Anniversary edition debate

Just incase some of you all get in a debate witha friend on the limited edition Yamaha line up, here is some information that might help which ever side you represent.

Today I was sitting around talking with a friend about the Yamaha bikes that were released this year and how impressed we were with the new R6. After a few minutes of talking about what we thought Yamaha is going to do to the new R1 next year we suddenly got into a debate about the 50th Anniversary “Limited Edition” paint schemes that were released in 2006. (Here is where the debate started)

I knew that there was only 500 of the “LE” R1 ($18,000) made and they had a gold or amybe just gold colored id plate near the vin number on the frame. My friend was under the impression that the R6 50th anniversary edition was the same but there were a few more produced so that every dealership could sell only one! As I am sure you can imagine this debate got pretty in-depth after that. We looked at several pictures on line of the bikes and came to the conclusion that there were no “50th Anniversary” plates on the R6’s like the R1’s have. But then we could not settle the debate exactly how many 50th Anniversary R6’s were produced. So I get on the phone with Yamaha customer relations line and asked if they knew how many of each color scheme R6’s were produced. They told me that I would have to hold for a few minutes to get me into contact with the Motorcycle product line customer’s relations office.

After 20 minutes of waiting I finally spoke to a person from the super sport motorcycle product line. I was informed that the R6’s are in fact a “LE” bike for 2006 but it was only a paint scheme like the 05 Ravens that were produced last year. And the R6 do not have the “50th Anniversary” plate that the true limited edition R1’s have so other than someone preferring that “LE” color the R6’s were not going to hold any other sort of value more than the other R6’s produced in 2006.

As far as the actual amount of “LE” bikes produced all he could say it was in the thousands for the year he could not tell me exactly how many were made compared to the other color schemes. He also said that it was not a true that every dealership would only have one “LE” paint scheme to sell in 06.

Don't you have anything better to do with your life than proving people wrong? I am happy this post probably boosted your "thread ego" and will further you in your battle to BE THE BEST! haha I though this was a debate between the two of us...but now I see the whole world knows. D*CK!
in the us the yellow scheme for the 6 is just a paint job, in the uk instead of yellow we get red/white
not like the r1 LE which would have the plate and is blackish in the uk but yellow in the us
I wish the US had the good paint schemes that you all get in the UK. That white and red is bad a$$! I would have considered trading in my 05 for that color!!

Easy killer. Haven't you heard the saying " Arguing or talking $hit on-line is like the special olympics. Because no matter who wins they are still retarded!" Besides that he is my best friend and he was just F'n around with me...... Didn't you see the ha ha.
Also, the '06 R1 is available in the yellow 50th scheme as both LE and non-LE versions. The LE version has Ohlins suspension front and rear, and has forged wheels (and the LE number plate, of course).

Real purpose of the true R1 LE is for AMA homologation so that it'd be legal for AMA Superstock. AMA requires minimum of 500 units be made available to the US general public to be considered a production model.
In short.. the yellow / black 50th R6 does not have a special vin plate # and is nothing other than a color scheme. :)
:( i thought i was special

My mom says Im special.. and I don't even have a yellow r6!
the only special R6 produced was the CLE in 2001....only 1000 made and numbered with a plate on the triple...all others are inferior....
Thats 20 minutes of your life that you'll never get back. Guess it's ok though because I would probably do the same thing.
LOL Wow! :badger :devilwink

Good info... Thanks
It was a long a$$ wait and I almost hung up and went here to ask the question but since it was on my mind I had to find out as soon as I could.
The Yamaha 06 sportbike catalog shows the R1 LE as a separate bike from the other R1's, while the R6 just wears the "50th Anniversary" paint.

The R1 LE has a lot of extra bits, and costs hella more than a plain R1.

There is no difference in equipment between any of the three R6's- blue, Raven, or 50th Anniversary.

Yet oddly enough, the raven and 50th anny R6 still cost more than the blue R6.

BTW, I've seen about 5 50th anniversary R6's lined up in a row out here at Bert's Mega Mall.
ya they are all over. o well i got it cause i liked the paint. and not because of the 50th stuff. i just didnt want blue cause i didnt like the black bottom fairing and i didnt want black cause all my friends have black.
