R1 questions +hp

I know this may belong in the R1MN but i need knowledge from everyone, even guys who ride r6's.

I have a 2003 R1. I wanna make it a little faster and want to do it similarly to the way that Jamie James does the motorwork on his r1. I don't wanna lose all streetability.

What are the cheapest, best mods? I know I can get a ram air kit from graves, but it's like $500 and would it even improve my 1/4 mile times?

What about thinner head gaskets, port & polish the head? Is it expensive and work the trouble? Will the compression be too much?

All I have now is a Micron slip on.

Any suggestions are welcome.

BMC race filter, full exhaust, power commander, and an ignition advancer would be a good start. Plus, with all of this the engine won't have to be broken open.
You also could get a quickshifter to increase your 1/4 mile times.
Change your Sprockets.

And since when is an R1 streetable anyway!? It has too much power for hte street to see it's full potential.
save all your money. leave it stock. can you push the bike into the mid 9s in the 1/4 like it CAN do? then it dosnt need anymore power. but if you must. nitrous, start at a 10shot, and up it as you get good.

I plan on getting it right an dset up before I do any major work. It's just embarrasing to do a 4th gear roll-on with my buddy (on his 06 r6) and I only beat him by a bike or two. I barely pulled on him.
Is there a cheaper way todo ram air and not look ghetto?
I have an 02 which is the same engine. Ive done k&n, v-stacks, slip-on, slide stops and changed gearing. I put down 140.3 and 84,ft. lbs. of tourqe. this thing is a beast to control at the track, I dont know why anyone would want more power out of an R1 for the street

It ain't that fast. I wanna beat my buddy on his 2005 ZX-10 and to do it I need it to pull harder. i just ordered my sprockets, -1 +2 and I just need to run him in a straight line.
Let's not kill ourselves now. An extended swingarm would help alot in the 1/4 mile.

With that setup your going to add to the problem that these bikes already have, keeping the front wheel down
straps and lowering links

I've already got the speed-link lowering link, front strap, and the bolt on swing arm ext will be here tomorrow.

BTW Guys...I am experienced and while I can't rock a racetrack like Deezul or some of the other guys, I know how to hold my own. I just wanna get a little more power out of it. Pipes and stuff seem like a waste of $$$.
Well, ask yourself what you really want. More power, or more accelleration? On what budget?

Sounds to me like you want to have more accelleration. Gearing will help a bunch.

Keeping it down at lower speeds/gears may be a problem, getting more wheelbase will help a truckload there.

You could probably stick a wet shot on it and have 40-60hp with reasonable safety and good reliability. You'd have to run good fuel and remove any ignition advancer, however. To do this right, expect around $500 plus dyno time (isn't worth doing unless you do it properly).

A supercharger can be done for around $4500. You might have some issues finding a company that does these though (the one I was thinking of no longer does them for carb'd R1's).

A turbo kit would be similar price. I think once you hit a certain amount of power you'll start having problems with crushing pistons and bending rods though, and unfortunately it's not that high of a hp number. You'd have to talk to someone who specalizes in these kits to really find out what would be the limit. Unfortunately, it'll get pricy in a hurry.

A pipe, filter, and dyno work is probably the typical route, but a slipon and nitrous (with dyno work) is going to be the best bang for the buck route you'll find. I only say the slipon becuase it's cheap and is for sound, not power.

I can't tell, did the R6 and the riders on them just get ripped? :(

no, no one is getting ripped. I'm still an R6 fan. I've had 2 and loved both of them. It's still the sexiest bike out there. Even the R1 doesn't look as good, but they're both nice.
hey dont worry guys, I wanna go faster also and would love to beat up on the litre bikes myself. To do that, I am now lookin to buy the ugliest bike since the busa, The NINJA 1400ZX.
Anyone need a 01 R6???
I'm gonna go with the PCIII, v-stacks, filter, slide-stops, already got the slip on and extension. I'll see what that does when I get it tuned.
