How is 93 a waste of money on a 4 gallon tank? oooooo... an extra doller at the pump oooooo...Plus it is cleaner, and more efficient. Waste of money, Bah. I wish sunoco still offered 94 octane in DE, I'd use it and feel good about the extra dollar I paid to keep my bike happy.
Wow, lots of bad info in this thread..

#1) Higher octane does not burn cleaner. In fact, its the opposite, especially if your engine cant take advantage of it. Then you'll have unburnt gas going out your exhaust.. yeah, cleaner.

#2) There is 1 gasoline that is different. It is Amoco Ultimate. It is even transported in seperate lines from the refinery and everything... so yeah, that one is diff, but the rest are all the same.

#3) ALWAYS use the lowest octane you can w/o pinging. The higher the octane is, the less power you will make. So, in a bike saying 87, you will make LESS power on 93, than on 87.

#4) 110 is stupid to put in your bike... :lol

Depends on the race fuel.. if it is oxygenated, then that race fuel will make more. If its "race fuel" from the gas station that is 104 octane, then it will make less power than 87 octane, IF 87 octane is the lowest octane you can run w/o detonation.

Most race gas that we (motorcycle racers) use is oxygenated. VP fuels, Nutec, etc... if you look at the octane ratings on their best fuels, its still only 89 or 91 octane.

What octane do you run?

87 pump... I have a +4 advance, full Yoshi race system, Factory jet kit, and the bike is hardly ever under 8000rpm. (track only) No pings, and runs strong... I also get great gas mileage on track. (but some say its cuz I'm so slow I'm not on the gas enough :lol)

We only ran 89 in the endurance bike that had all the above + degreed cams, and some other trick parts.. it pulled like a train compared to other 600's I've ridden.

yeah the octane issue has been beaten to death...people just do not understand what octane is and what it does. Simply put, as you add octane to gas you reduce its combustibility. This allows for higher compression engines because when low octane fuel is compressed with all that heat its gonna want to explode before the spark (detonation, dieseling, knocking, etc). Running higher octane will NOT give you ANY more power...it just doesnt...unless your engine requires it due to compression. So for all you running high octane...go ahead. Doesnt bother me...but its stupid. And stop saying it runs cleaner! Thrak covered that though....

People can't seem to get by the myth that if it costs more it must be better. Just cuz it says "Premium" doesn't make it any better for your R6.

Just run what the manual says - why would you consult it for all the torque figures and repairs/maintenance you do and then ignore it when it tells you what fuel to run.

Just think about it. Who are you to tell the factory that designed and built your bike, and recommends 87 that 91/93 runs better. I think they might know what works best.

I agree with you on the fuel issue and I agree with pretty much everything the manual says. But I totally disagree with what the manual says about breaking the engine in easily...

I figure that's more of a liability issue for them. Tell everyone to take it nice and easy - let everything seat gradually, and they have less people messing up the break-in on their brand new under-warranty bikes. It makes sense from a company perspective I guess.
