Ok my brother said I should only put 93 in my 99 R6.. I was looking in the manual yesterday and it says the recommended fuel is Regular Unleaded..
now do they mean 87 regular unleaded.. or 93 regular unleaded lol..

So i guess the question is.. what do you use in your bike?

The higher the compression the higher the octane needed to keep from getting detonation(pinging). Generally speaking if you've got 10.5:1 or higher compression use as high an octane rating possible. Where you live can also play a part in what fuel to use. If you live in a hotter climate you'll need a higher octane fuel. What happens is as the fuel is being compressed by the piston, it heats up. If the octane rating is too low for the amount of heat inside the compression chamber the fuel will ignight prematurely. The manual says my 05 has 12:1 compression and to use 91+ octane. We are lucky enough to have 93 here in Florida so that's what I use.

I used to run Sunoco Gold 94 but last year switched to 91 octane and have no ill-effects to report.

I do try to stick to the 'name brand' gas though, and avoid the independent stations in the area.

we've only got 92 in WA and I use that. I try and only get Chevron as I have had good luck with the Techron that they put in their gas. It really does keep your fuel system clean... I used to work at a car lot and we have had quite a few cars that pinged, ran bad, had a little mis, whatever. We would put a full tank of Premium Chevron Gas, a full bottle of Techron additive, once that tank was gone the car ALWAYS ran WWWAAAAYYYYY better. Ever since I have had faith...

Whether you run gas from a ma & pa location or from Mobil does not matter. All the gas comes from the same distribution center. You can see BP trucks, Mobil trucks, Sunoco trucks all filling up at the same center. They then take gas out to verious gas stations, even to the ma & pa locations. So sticking to name brand stations does nothing other then pay a bit more sometimes.

Anyone in the Flint area of MI want to try race gas shoot me a PM and I will tell you where we are located. We sell 110 Octane Torco race gas for $3.899 right now on sale. Let me know and I will hook you up with some. ;-) I think other stations are charging $3.999 if you can find a station because it is getting harder and harder. One thing to look for in race gas, ask the station if the tank is dedicated to race gas only...most are not and will switch to K1 (Kerosene) in the winter and switch back to race gas in the spring. We actually have a tank just for race gas, and a dedicated pump for it too.

One thing about higher octane gas is that it burns cooler and you get a more complete burn. I stick to 90+ Octane in my bike just because I am getting cheaper the older I get...LOL

I put in 89. High octane is a waste of money.
How is 93 a waste of money on a 4 gallon tank? oooooo... an extra doller at the pump oooooo...Plus it is cleaner, and more efficient. Waste of money, Bah. I wish sunoco still offered 94 octane in DE, I'd use it and feel good about the extra dollar I paid to keep my bike happy.

Thats my logic for filling with 93. Even if I am nearly bone dry, the extra .20 a gallon doesn't make much of a dent when I am filling up. Especially when I get 40-50 miles to the gallon on the bike...
