Nasty Low side in the twisties.

Me and a couple of friends went down to the twisties, Blue Hills in Quincy, MA. I've got an 05 raven r6, friends got an 05 kawi zx-6r, and another buddy with a 03 r1 (flame edition) went down with us. We later met up with a kid on a ducati monster later in the afternoon strutting his stuff in the twisties. In twisty experience it went my buddy with the kawi who races at the track, then me, my other buddy on the r1 and the ducati kid we met up with tied for there own pace. We hit the twisties down and back like 10 times from like 10:30 to like 2... Then the kid with the r1 leaves, and shortly later the kid with the ducati leaves... It's down to my buddy with the kawi, and me... He goes one more lap and we can take a break then call it a day.... It was like the second of third tight left turn, I almost came out of it upright but the tires let go very unexpectedly and I lowsided into a "no parking sign". I came out with minor road rash on my left leg, and left arm. I was wearing a full faced helmet, leather jacket, leather/CF knuckled gloves, steel toe boots, and jeans :)blahblahb) The bike pretty much slid out from under me, and was sliding on my back right behind the bike.... The sliding Bike takes out the no parking sign, and turned it into a crazy S shaped sign, and then just barely grazes a small tree. Yet I make it out with only road rash on my left lower leg, and splotch on my left arm.... Very very lucky :bowdown

Here are some good quality pics of my injuries, and bike.

Sucks dude. That rash looks like it's pretty fun, but I'm glad it wasn't worse.

I'm interested in those twisties you speak of. Maybe we can meet up some day...
Glad you're ok... put something on those wounds tho.
Ohh yah baby, I had my dog lick the wounds clean, and then i threw a bandaid on them :)

I'll meet up with hurley as soon as I get the bike fixed up through insurance.
zipphreak, I was just looking at your sig and it reminded me of someone on a similar bike who let me use their cell phone in a Burger King parking lot last Summer. I was on my silver R6. That wasn't you, by any chance? Random, I know.:nutjob
HOLY S*** Paul.....damn glad that you are alright. Such a gorgous bike too (since we share alot of the same mods and color). Oddly enough that was one of the best rides I had so far this year, almost reached the edge of my rear tire. Hope you can get everything fixed soon, so we can hit the twisties again. Glad you made it thru that without any serious injuries.

Hurley its def a nice road to get down and dirty on. Whenever you come up to the boston area hit one of us up. Other than zipphreak's accident today was a good time, kinda made me fall in love with my r1 all over again.
gj at staying alive, glad u came out alrite. i see from your pics that u've converted the devil to undertail lol
Well sounds like you pushed too hard, the curve will all ways win. I press curves a bit,but don't really test the limits. I just don't want to have no nice bike to ride. In fact I try to slow myself down,so nothing bad happens like speeding tickets or wrecked bike. I think, i actually have more fun than most people by trying to take it easy and keep learning how to ride and also how to fix the bike, if you fix your own bike-I don't think you take as many chances because you just don't want to fuk it up . it's just too hard to fix and cost way to much dough. :idea
look on the bright side, now you have an undertail exhaust... Glad you're alright
Thanks guys for the support, the road rash is burning but I'm still alive and live to ride another day. I just can't stress how important GEAR is to everyone, and now from my experience if your going over 20mph, leather pants are a must if your riding hard. :beathorse

Hurley, that was definetly me man, I just didn't know you were on the r6mn at the time.. I forgot if i asked you or not, but hell yeah i remember that. When I get insurance to fix this shit I'm down for some riding. No reason to give up over one baby crash, just have to take it as it is, and take the crazy shit to the track in a more controlled environment.

I've had many many laps around these twisties in the past three weeks and was very familiar with them... It really had nothing to do with too much lean, i had a perfect lean going into the turn, and just happen to come out of the turn where a car had slung up a decent sized rock onto the middle of the road. Instant low-side. I had no chance to fight it or bring it back up, the rock sent it over hard and fast. Probably slid a good 10-15 ft too :) As soon as I felt the front tire let go and the bike going down i released the grips asap, and layed back and slid on the road into the brush on the side of the road.. I actually ended up to the left of the bike on my back :handclap

I have no problem fixing my bike and have done all the maintenance and shit on it myself. The question is not me fixing it here, it's the insurance company and the dealer. See I do ride with insurance, and full coverage unlike some people :thumbup . This is one of those important times where you actually need it. Now if I can get a dealer do it for me for x amount of $$ and I can do it for y amount $$, I would definetly fix it myself because most of the shit is easily replaceable, and im comfortable working on my 6. Now I just gotta try to find the most rediculous estimate anywhere :whistle

My bike has a whole new meaning to the words undertail exhaust :)

ouch.. I see what you meant.

good luck w/ your raven :)
By the way,the most important is not the gear, its how you are riding ,gear only helps-and will not bail you out of a really bad accident:slapcry I do wear leather pants and a helmet tough and a padded jacket. There are plenty that don't wear any gear at all in maine-and they seem to ride a bit slower because they know if they fuk up it will cost them dearly without gear. I know these types of roads usually have a few rocks falling on the road that means you drive slower,so you can avoid hitting them, with no front tire you are history every time.
I'm going to leave it at that sunofwolf, because you are a clown and have no idea what the f*ck you are talking about anyway.

Do east coasters not wear leathers?

Small world, huh? It was your turn signals and the radar detector that made me think it was you.

Thanks again for letting me use your phone. :thumbup
im sorry but, hittin twisties on the stocker dunlops is like playing russian roulette (sp?)... lol. anyways, your bike looks alright, everything is straight so just replace the plastics and keep riding.

Ohh boy another one, I was wearing all my gear except I didn't have leather pants.. I was saving up for a 2-peace leather suit in the upcoming month too :( For the little road rash that i have, and the speed I was going its actually pretty unbelievable.

Maybe, maybe not I hit up many twisties before with them and as long as I kept them sticky they kept me on the road.. Maybe you didn't read the crash post about the rock? But yah 90% of the damage is cosmetic to the plastics.
You need to get a real barrier over those rashes- I suggest Tegaderm.
