My Suomy S1R Extreme review...

Well, rode for about 30 miniutes in my new helmet today after it arrived.

My previous helmet is now, a passenger helmet. It's a KBC Force RR.

I got it because I knew I was going to order a better helmet, and I dare not ride home from the dealer without a helmet. Even if it is only 20 minutes away....

Here's my review.

The paint on this thing is INTENSE, as you will see by the pics. Finish is the same as an MV...a work of art. It comes with an Iridium visor which does help from the sun, but not too much to where you can't use the visor at night like a tinted shield. It's a just right, IMO.

The liner is one of the things that sucked me to this helmet besides it artwork and weight. After trying on other helmet, once you put on the Suomy, all the other liners feel like sandpaper on your face cause the Alcantra is just so smooth. The fit for a Suomy is perfect since my head is very dolichocephalic...i.e. VERY ROUND, like a globe head, lol. So the helmet is like a suction cup. The weight is intense, quick head motions are very easy cause the helmet is so light.

The ventilation is BAR NONE. The vents open or shut actually make a HUGE difference, unlike alot of helmets. You truly do get entire head ventilation, as above my ear were even getting air.

Peripheral vision is awesome. It's much better than my KBC, and even better than my Shoeis.

But with all that, comes the negative. It's a VERY NOISY helmet. Which is understandable, considering it's a race helmet and has super ventilation. Most/all of the wind noise/whistling comes from the sideplates. If you put your hand over the sideplate, 99% of the wind noise goes away. When your head is turned to the side, like when looking over your shoulder, it gets EXTREMELY loud. This is definitly an earplugs helmet.

Also, the upper cowling things. They could be a little umm...well, not as cheap? But I guess that's how they get the light weight is from it being such thin plastic. But the mating surface also isn't PERFECT.

Aside from that, here's the rest of the pics:

You can see, the paint and design on this helmet is bar none, and sparkles like it's flashing lights. Absolutely AWESOME quality and detail.

^you got a girl helmet

Just kidding bro. I've been trying to decide if I want one of these or not. I like the gold one :thumbup
I think my KBC Racer 1 was much louder. My only problem with the Suomy Spec1r is the cheek pads are way too tight. After about a 1/2hr to an hour my jaw is killing me.
Hell, with the Gain and the flower pot things on a washing machine, that pink and white helmet fits right in. :thumbup Make sure to take it with you on the next gay pride parade. :lol

Seriously, you know Suomy deliberately made that helmet for women, right?
Somehow I knew when OICDN was doing a Suomy Extreme write up it would be that helmet. :lol

Yeah those things vent like crazy but really I've found either open or shut it doesn't make much difference. They have the design with the holes and channels all through the EPS lining so it vents all the time no matter what. Otherwise they are a nice helmet and yours is very cute! :sexy
I didn't know they made it deliberatly for women, but whatever.

I have all black gear and a black bike....even with all the reflective stuff, I still need to be SEEN. The gold one is the one I originally wanted, but after seeing the white online, I changed my mind as the gold, although I'm bot one for completely matching gear, Gold woulda been a bit off.

Also, the Extreme gold is slightly brighter than the regular S1R gold. I met a guy who had the S1R extreme gold, and he said it fades, and I figured I'de also give the white a shot as white, well, it doesn't fade badly :lol.

Meh, round these parts :)lol) it's like boardshort print....but on a helmet.
Is the only diff between the Spec 1R and the Spec 1R Extreme in the liner?

-r.
The vent at the top of the helmet, the extreme has, the regular doesn't. That and the S1R is a LITTLE lighter, but both have the alcantra liner.
ive got one , and the only thing i ever had as a probelm was the center air duct wasnt glued on very well and it flew off, but they sent me a new one in the mail free and i stuck it back on and bam it was alot better, must have been shitty glue on the first.
lol im getting this helmet for my girl :D
on a side note... i love the flowers, its kinda hawaiin which is coo

on another side note... i have a spec 1r and im sorry, its not any where near as comfy as my arai corsair.
it looks, extreme, lol

yes, the difference between the Spec 1R and the Extreme are the vents and the paint schemes, also Suomy USA has good customer service and the helmets are light.

The visors are a pain in the arse at first to change, but the skill is aquired through time.
Yeh, my wife got this helmet seveal months ago.

It's def a girlie helmet :thumbup
though she does love the way it fits
I dunno...maybe it's my head shape, but the Arai's didn't feel as nice on my head.
^yeah man, the helmet looks like board shorts

I got boxers that got the flowers on em...chicks dig 'em

I love my Fabrizio

The difference between the extremes and the regulars by the way is that they are lighter, louder, and imo better looking (I think they also come with the iridium shield).

Haha...that picture of you in the helmet is dope. :lol

Ig ot the flowers because well....I'm a water freak. Skim, used to surf, and live near the water and waves. It is like boardshorts print...it just fits for the islander way of life in Florida*.

It's sad that my $100 KBC helmet is quieter....this has got to be the only high end helmet on the market that is LOUD.

The ventilation is INTENSE though....

* Yes, I live on a mini island in Florida. The ST. Johns river "alienates" us from teh rest of the state. nothing like living on the keys, but you HAVE TO cross a bridge no matter what to get where I live. People have stickers that say "Islander. We don't cross the ditch." Refering to crossing the bridge to ehad into the "mainland" :lol
