2007 Yamaha R6

1 question:

If i wanted to go really fast (way faster then stock) whats my best setup for top end speed?

2 question:

If i wanted real low end (catwalk every gear kinda deal) what setup would i need?

I need 2 setups one for august speed runs at my local army base fesival and another for setup for wheelie fun. Last year the lambo got me and this year i dont want that to happen again. (top speed of course)

Thanks in advance

Quickest route is to lower your gearing. Decent air filter and some iridium plugs will help with keeping some torque while increasing top speed a little. Not gonna get much top though :(

My 2001 tops out at about 174, and that's with akra cf exhaust, jet kit, k&n filter, motul 7100 4T oil, ngk iridium plugs and velocity stacks. With all of that, I only gained 12mph over my previous top speed, but shortened the time it takes to get them quite a bit.

How much more speed you looking for exactly?

Well for the long run (army base) The road runs forever lol...so the faster i go the better...Last year i beat the lambo every gear intill 6th gear then the lambo goes by me like im sitting still..lol...well not really but he really is passing me...I need to be around 310kph-320kph but those figures are by his and my dreamometer....so real speed im unsure...this year radar will be out..i just figured i could put a huge sprocket front and rear and be done with it...The race starts 1-1/3 mile before it passes the crowd so were already doing 250kph+ the rest is up to my new sprockets....The race is all about topend not who gets to the quarter mile faster so if i need a little start thats no issue.

As far as bottom end (catwalks and what not) i need something that really wakes up the bike topend wont matter.

in that case your not going to beat a lambo in top speed no matter what you do. try and try you won't beat it.

get a litre bike or a busa or kawi 14 and you MIGHT be able to beat it top speed.

but your not going to get even close with only a 6. the 6's are meant for agility and cornering ability not top speed runs.

Hahahaha - I was just about to say get a Busa!!

Got me dude - I don't think you'll get that kind of speed for money that would be worth while, it'd be better spent on a faster bike. Like I said - after all of my time and cash, I only gained 12mph on mine, but then again, I wasn't going for top speed, I was going for responsiveness and torque for the twisties without changing my gearing.

My top speed (just went for a run today to check cause I ran her empty a few days ago and think I gummed up my carbs again - only cleaned a couple months ago) is 282kph, speedo-healed, and I think that was only cause it the weather was on my side. I'd be interested to hear how you break 300 with an R6.

I know you can do it with an R1, easy, but 310-320 real speed is gonna cost you.

Give it a shot though - nothing beats a failure but a try!! Don't blow your engine!

Bottom end - easiest thing to do is of course your sprockets, next on the list is to increase your airflow.

Ya i figured i was dreaming but it would be nice though. I read and read about who and what the best sprockets are for real low end power but can't come up with a real awnser...I want a real change for low end like im talking the difference of apples and oranges jet fighter plane to a ford escort...whats something that will make me scream catwalk every gear all day long..?

i hope your also wearing full leathers if your going that fast...

sliding on the asphalt in jeans and tennis shoes doesn't sound to good to me especially if your trying to get speeds comparable to a lambo.

I have no idea what you would need to do to wake up the bike as much as you need to - I'm not a stunter - you can ask in the stunt section of the forum - they'll have better answers for you there.

Just a little advice - +10 on what natedogg said. You might want to get race rails if you don't have them yet (though they might cut down on your top speed by 2 or 4 kph - don't know what effects they have on air flow) but more importantly, if you're gonna be sustaining 250+ kph, get a scotts reusable oil filter. I've seen people blow their engines due to sustained high speed riding on a bike modded to go above the rated top speed but they were using oem or "standard" filters. When the filter clogs, its over for the engine.
