Hello people, I'm thinking of going to get my license as I am now 21 and would like to get a bike for work. I was just wondering if anyone knows of any decent insurance companies which don't rip off young riders (if there is such a thing!!) ?

Bennetts are reasonable.........get an online quote and post it here.
Bennetts won't quote me online.

I'm unsure of what bike to go for? I love the R6 (thats why i'm here). I know it's not an ideal first bike, but I am a very sensible person, I'm going through the application process to join the police so I won't be riding like a looney!!

Has anyone else on here got an R6 as a first bike? I have seen a lot of the Americans have, but obviously riding in England will be a LOT different then riding on their beautiful long straight roads!!

I was also thinking of the Honda CBR600 or GSXR 600. Has anyone any experiance on these bikes?

Thanks

John
R6 first bike - ouch!!

23 years old, 7years NCB, low crime zone, garaged, protected NCB, passed test 11/99
04 R6 brand new on 06 plate, 0 miles, unlimited miles, EU cover etc etc
Anyone want to guess??

They do price beating so take your lowest quote, knock £100 off and see what thay can do!!

Good luck

I had the R6 for my first bike....maybe not the most obvious choice for a first bike but it only goes as fast as you tell it :)

Nephew of mine gets good insurance discounts cos he's a copper, dont forget to tell 'em.
the r6 was a first bike for me
at 17 it cost £1500, aim for a price below that

Cheers, I'll give them a go.
After you've tried everybody else give Yamaha Insurance a call and tell them your bets price, they've always beaten it for me. Don't bother with doing an online quote with them though, always comes out higher.
First off :welcome

My fisrt bike after many years was a R6 2000 model, took it easy till i got used to it and it was fine, as philosophico says it will only go as fast as you twist the throttle.

Cannot help with insurance prices or companies but all i can say is shop around and play one off againt the other.:thumbup

I am 20 and have just bought my 1st bike 2 months ago. A 2000 R6 i have got on with this bike fine, although i have read others have not. My insurance cost me £590 fully comp from Rosborough. The good thing is its a riders policy so i can ride any 600cc or below.
I tried bike team. They are quite good and have been the cheapest so far with a price of £1083 TPFT (I live in quite a high crime area). I'll have to give yamaha a call and see what they say.

Terminator, have they got a webiste or a phone number?

Cheers lads,

John
Hmm, push them a bit more - I got it for £345 Bargain i thought!!
bike team £192
ebike £157 both tpft
Give H&R insurance a try john, they were the same price for my R6 as bennets were for my ZXR 400!
Carole Nash have always been good for me.. with free breakdown aswell (tried and tested twice)

Seems very cheap. Are you sure its not just for channel island residents only?? Reason I ask is because i'm 28 with 4 years NCB and I struggled to get a fully comp quote below £400. Also, when I was 20 I as paying £800 TPFT to insure a CBR600.

im 23, first year riding, on an 03 r6, third party fire and theft. i got it with carol nash in the uk for £390. which i was happy with
