49 STATE BIKE

Hey guys I have a problem, I found an R6 thats really nice and I'm ready to buy it, but I just found out its a 49 state bike, and I live in CA. I have searched for the forum for some info and I have a few questions. I understand one way to get around this is to switch clusters so the bike has 7500 miles on it, are there guys on these forums that would be willing to help me out with something like this in the Long Beach CA, area.

My second option is to have my sister who lives in AZ register the bike in her name, but if I get pulled over and the bike is registered out of state am I going to be ticketed or have my bike impounded?

The second method is more likely to get you screwed as you take a chance everytime you ride.
Man this sucks, find a bike I really like and its a 49 state bike. Think I will just avoid the headache and keep looking
Is it located in Murrieta, is it liquid silver, and does it come with gear? I think you and I maybe looking at the same bike. I found so things out on it, PM me.

my bike is registerred in FL and I ride it in DE. No problems so far.
The owner of this bike never got the title transfered to his name. The title has the dealership on the front and him on the back. From what AZ DMV said its and "open" title. The dealer could transfer it to a new party, but without his name being on the front no one that buys it wouldn't be able to register until they got up with the old dealer, requeted a new title, had the old dealer (in AZ) sign it over them, notorize it, THEN they could register it. Atleast this is what I'm being told by AZ. Anyone with any input I'd loike to hear it. Didn't mean to jack your thread Resqman911.

DE also dosent have the CHP, we have pretty strict rules on stuff like that.

They can impound and DESTROY the vehicle if your caught smuggling in a non CA approved vehicle. That dosent even start with the fines.
wait a second, so if i decide to go on a road trip on my bike, and i drive through cali and i get ticketed, they can impound my bike and destroy it???? how the hell does this work, doesn't seem too right to me, there has to be a loop hole, there is one for everthing, you just gotta read EVERY LAW on the books

He is referring to swapping the gauges to make it look like there are the required amount of miles. If you bypass the laws they have in place to try and register a bike that is not California approved and/or does not have the mileage necessary...and they find out...they can impound and destroy it.

key word is smuggling. Your not smuggling/importing illegally if your just driving through or visiting.

Also if he registers in someone elses name out of state they can nail him for fraud and i think tax evasion.

Easiest and safest thing to do is to swap clusters.
I bought my 2003 in NY and registered it with the CA DMV with no questions asked. They just verified the frame and engine VIN's. You only need to get a CHP inspection if its a salvage title or something wierd.
All your anwsers lie with in this thread.

Also, you might get a better response with that cluster posting in the CA section.
