I was there at mission on monday for the race school. man was it fun. the track is kind of based on a drag strip with a bunch of turns added; 9 in total (you can see a map somewhere on
www.wmrc.ca), mostly lefts. its a tight little track that with 15/51 gearing will make you just hit the redline in sixth on the straight before you'll be wagging that back end to slow enough for the tight hairpin. the afternoon sessions were pretty epic. it was hot and dry for the first one, and i managed to lap a guy in my group (fastest of 5 groups in the school) ten minute sessions that just rock you. the only problem is that my race bike has that fucking 2nd gear issue bad so it was great with the knee down and all in the corners. my laps were about 1:20, and i think the super stars are around 1:10.
steve crevier was there; pitted right across from me and was out on his wife's SV 650, which he did 2 laps, and then brought in to fit race slicks. the best was hearing her say, "now baby, i need the bike to get to work on wednesday" as steve was pulling off wheels. he was ripping around and honking (slightly illegal to have a horn) at all the corner workers as he rallied around. he also was on a little 50cc honda dirtbike with his kid on his lap and he was wheelieing around at less than walking speed in the pits, switching between which leg he'd take off and kick out. i saw him later with his kid again, riding on circles spinning on his knee puck. super funny. people road trip to calgary, spokane, seattle, portland to hit track days or race, althogh it depends where you're coming from, since we have some super twisty fun rides outta vancouver like vancouver-lillooet , vancouver-mt. baker, chakanut drive in washington state and others...
we do really badly need a good track around here.
