Default Shifting opposite

I just finished putting my bike back together. I changes my oil as well as my stater cover. I go for a test ride and come to find out my shifting mech is opposite. When i shift down it goes up through the gears, and vice versa. Any idea's why this is so?

whoever had it before you must've switched it to GP style. 1 up, 5 down.
track riders prefer this style since it's easier to shift thru a corner etc. you can switch it back though.

DO THE OPPOSITE OF THIS!!

Shifter lever was installed the opposite way (on top instead of down or vice versa) from the way it came off.

Just figured it out i appreciate all the help. I'm real new at this, but can't afford to always take it to the shop.
