Hat's off to you. My best suggestions -
Step 1: get a hold of some cash for the repair bills because 100% if this is your first bike, it'll be licking asphalt somewhere between your first and second ride

.
Step 2: get on your bike, turn it one, put it in gear and ride it to the garage, park it hang up the keys.
Step 3: take that cash you set aside for the inevitable and go out and find yourself a mid 90s FZR or something, trust me you'll be proud of yourself when you've dropped it and realize you just don't give a sh**.
I myself have been riding a measly 6 years and I still have two bikes - one to drop and one to pamper. Unfortunately things got mixed up for me last week and I dropped my baby, the R6, while the other (Kawasaki) is chillin in the garage while I find parts (the Kawa is no where near as much fun as the R6 and has been relegated to a necessity only machine). Oh how I wish I was riding the kawa last thursday (sigh)
That said - just take a few weeks on something old, less tuned and less eager to move. This is a machine that will get you into jams before you have the chance to think and if you don't have the experience to get yourself out without taking time to think, you may lament more than just your bike and the repair bill. I love to see new riders, but breaks my heart when they're laid up in the hospital and the bike is in shambles in the garage.
