Default Denver Broncos: keep or retire Shanny?

Ok... I think the guy has lost his mind, although I haven't paid attention to Denver exclusively until I moved here 2 and a half years ago.

But...overall, I think he's lost his mind.

However... he does have two superbowl wins. Granted, that was with a guy whose initials were 'T' 'D' at the helm of the running back position (and with initials TD, you can't get much better than that. ).

So, I don't know where to stand with this guy. I've seen him do some fantastic fantastic shit with an anemic offense under Plummer and come away with a 12-4 season, and go to the playoffs. Yet at the same time, I've seen him engineer some FANTASTIC losses against the Chargers and Lions. A good coach, in my book, finds a way even with a shitty team...and it's almost like he's calling things that just can't be executed.

So, if you were pat bowlen, what would you do?

I think as long as Cutler gets better he'll stay. Big Tan is a big time coach.

where to start with shanny. I've been a bronco fan for YEARS, since I was a little kid. I've gotta say, I'd love to see Shanahan get the boot. It's not that he's a bad coach, not by any stretch of the imagination. It's because in a LOT of games, Denver gets ahead, then shanny goes into his "prevent defense" bullshit that doesn't prevent ANYTHING (except holding onto the lead). In case you don't know what that is, the prevent defense is a deep zone defense. He does so they can't move the ball down the field with big plays. The thing is, the opponent can complete passes that are less than 10 yards all day long!!!! There's NO short defense. Why Shanny feels the need to destroy denver's leads every single time with a method that has been proven faulty too many times to count is beyond me. If he coached the whole game like he coached the first half most of the time, Denver would have WAY more wins.

PS Volition, I care.

The D has been bad, but I dont' think it's all on him. He's an o-fense guy that leaves most of the defensive calls to the cordinator. Correct? I'd sure as hell like to see him out. Bates right?

Shanahan is the guy in front, he needs to surround himself with competent people. If he continues to hang on to a guy who f's things up for years and years, he's just as guilty.

The D can be really good, and in the past, has been the best in the league. Good or bad doesn't change the fact that if the broncos rack up a big lead, they will (let's say 90%) inevitably either lose, win in OT, or barely squeak out a win because they've given that lead back. I've seen it happen for more than 10 years now and it's infuriating.

I don't know how it is with the new defensive coordinator, but they used to try to get the other team to make mistakes moreso than keep the ball from moving down the field (Saw it in an interview with John Lynch). This is good, but, it's also kinda like saying, "we're going to try to be luckier than the other team." ...and sometimes that doesn't work-out.
