Default A question for those who live in a big city (boston, nyc etc.)

I am moving to Boston really soon. Will be living in the city. I am thinking about selling my car, and just having an R6. Good idea or bad? I am thinking money wise it would be a good idea. Does anyone in the northeast do this?

Sounds like a good idea until you need to get across the city and you have 3ft of snow to deal with.

Once the cold starts rolling in I don't touch a bike... I hate the cold but at the same time I see people riding through out the year so to each his own.

Just something to think about.

I wouldn't be riding in the winter either. I will be living/working in the city. and if there is three feet of snow, I wouldn't be out driving a car either.

I have flown into Boston many times and always use public transportation while there. I don't mind it at all. Plus, I won't know anyone there. So, its not like I will be going out every night. I figured I could save some money for a year or two by not having a car. Plus, parking seemed like a big pain when I have driven to Boston.

parking sucks in Boston. If you can get around without a car go for it

The cagers drive like a-holes here and if you ride defensively they'll eat you up. I ride mine 45 miles into town once-twice a week and always keep in a gear worth some nuts, rather have them behind me in stead of ahead! and the pavement sucks.

welcome!

Good idea if you need to save money. If you do need a car, you can always rent one from http://www.zipcar.com/
If you decide to change your motorcycle insurance to this state, they may not take you unless your car is insured with them first. And motorcycle insurance is very expensive here.

why don't you even drive here before even thinking about a car.

my opinion, suicide to drive a R6 in boston, let alone a car

One of the reasons I moved out of boston was to make living with a bike easier! Its a sucky city for bikes. The drivers are HORRIBLE, they're called massholes for a reason. Also, any good riding roads are a good ways out of the city, so you're looking at a healthy commute to go have fun.

It is an easy city to live in without a car though.
