Default Considerig the Air Force

For those in the Air Force do you enjoy that branch of the military. I just graduated from college and I am really considering joining the Air Force and looking into the officers program. Any tips would help. I know the military lifestyle can be a rough one as I grew up in one as my dad is a former Major in the Marine Corp.

I'm an Air Force Officer...went to the Air Force Academy to get my commission. What do you want to know? Career-field questions?

I'm a Contracting Officer. I spend taxpayer money for a living...have deployed three times...Pakistan, Fallujah/Baghdad, and Kuwait.

Well I earned a degree in Criminal Justice from SDSU (the college that made headlines about the drug bust). The career path I've looked into so far are Security Forces Officer or the Special Investigations Officer.

Do you have any pointers when I go see an AF officer recruiter?

Both are great career fields. The downside to being a Security Forces Officer is that they are slowly downsizing the career field. You will deploy A LOT! 6 months dwell time, then you are back out "in the fight" so to speak.

OSI is a pretty sweet deal. Yes, you will deploy, but not as much. You will be TDY (temporary duty) quite often. The guys I know escort 4 star generals around the world. I don't know too much about OSI world, but they are basically undercover agents. That badge you receive after training gets you in quite a bit of places...

As for tips, just do your homework. It looks like you know what you want to do. Try and talk to some people in those career fields. Arrange it with your recruiter so you can. They will give you the "real" picture of what it is like.

Just curious, with those choices of career paths have you considered the Navy or the Army. I know the army has something similar but I imgaine like the ariforce they might be downsizing too. Hell with a a 4 year degree see if you can become a pilot. I was in the army as a grunt but I orignally wanted to fly. Hell if you are on a motorcycle sight you should get behind the yolk. Since I couldn't fly thats why I got the bike. Anyway thats my two cents. but power to you for watning to serve after college. I give you props. I served before I started.

SDSU huh? are you from SD?! that's pretty cool. I've had fathers that were in the army and airforce! and from what i've gotten to "taste" i've liked the Airforce life better. but i'm not anywhere close to having the experience that Qtip has!!
God Bless you man! i couldn't do it!
