Been in the AF for over 6 yrs. Its just like anything else you do in life. It has its good points and bad points. But to me, the good outweights the bad. I liking it so far. If you do decide to join, make sure you pick a job that you want to do. Don't go for a job just because it may have a big bonus. That money ain't going to mean anything if your miserable.
Good luck in your decision.

I am not air force, I am in the army. I am pleased with my decision to join and the one I made to come onto active duty. It has it's ups and down but overall it is worth the bullshit to me. I know other people that do not feel the same way that I do. You will get out of the military what you put into it. I was told that when I joined and it has held true for me in almost 12 years of service.

I'm a pilot in the Air National Guard and love it! I don't think I'd be happy in the Active Duty Air Force though. I like having a civilian job and having a little more freedom to do what I want. I don't get told what job I have to do or where I have to go every couple of years. I applied to the unit I wanted to be in. Don't get me wrong, I still get deployed and work my ass off, but overall, it's been good.

Been in the Marine Corps now a little over 10 years, and I'll have to agree with John. You need to find a job that you can stand doing, because the money will go away but the job is what you have to go back to. Also just a personal request, if you join in a time of war, don't complain about being sent oversea's.

Been out of the Marine Corps since '02 and I have missed it big time. I made the mistake of getting out. however, I do have a good paying job and have made a ton of contacts out here at the China Lake Naval RDT&E facility in CA. On another note, just like leathernuts said, the money will come and go, but the job will be there. I am actually going to go back into the Corps in a few months because I miss it and, even though the pay is good, I don't enjoy what I am currently doing. I am going to take a pay cut of about half just so I can serve and do what I know how to do best...be a Marine. Semper Fi!
