what do the stripes mean?

What do the number of stripes mean on the first patch?
I am guessing rank? so would four stripes be a ssgt? Is the top right corner patch a ssgt?
I am looking for a logo like the first one to make a tattoo out of but I want to know exactly what they mean.

First patch is an Airman First Class, or E-3 in the USAF. And your correct, the top is a SSgt.

If you don't mind my asking why would you get a tattoo of a rank when your not in the service?

eww tattoo of A1C insignia? please don't. unless you are an A1C and have huge guns you could get them tattooed on your arms and then wear a sleeveless BDU blouse

My father passed away recently and I found some of his old stripes from when he was in service. He had a very nice military funeral.

I just want a simple tattoo to honor him. I was going to put his dates on either the bottom strip or in the circle. He took the early out when he retired and he was only a SSGT when he left.

Do you think it would matter to people that I had it even though I never served?

I am just thinking of different ideas for a tattoo at the moment. I still haven't settled on this one but it is one of my top choices.

See to you it means one thing but to everyone else... When i was in, a guy "thought" he made rank but didn't. He put on the third class PO tattoo then didnt make it the next two cycles. If you have served and you see someone with a rank tat you consider them an incredible idiot.
