OHA vs BAH

I'm contemplating taking orders to Guam here soon. BAH is nice, I find cheap rent and the excess takes care of car payment/etc. I've heard that OHA only pays the rent and you do not get the excess. Is that true? If so I'll be taking a huge pay cut going there. I can't find the answer on the internet.


Edit: Found out the answer. OHA only covers your lease. With all allowances accounted for I'd be taking a $300/mo pay cut from what I'm making now. So much for incentive to go to the worst navy billet there is

I heard guam is a tiny island and not much to do.

I have been in Germany and Korea and the OHA covered everything but telephone. In Korea you can get a house including cable and internet on the OHA price.

But in Korea it is a bit different. You have to go to an authorized realtor, then the Army pays you and you change the check to Won and pay them. Use to be more than the rent, but DFAS caught up on that and now they only pay you what is on your lease contract.

I was getting OHA in Korea and my family in the states still lived in Housing (BAH).

I don't know about Guam, because I don't know any one that's being stationed there.
