Default Well... I'm going to be joining the USAF soon...

I'm going to go speak to a recruiter early next week. Anything I should be aware of? Expect?

Okay, seriously though.

1. All recruiters lie. They're like used car salesmen, only they're trying to sell you the next 6 years of your life.

2. If it's not on paper, with multiple signatures, it never happened. "Oh, well my recruiter told me..." is the punchline of a joke, not a valid complaint.

3. Active Duty is not the only way to work for the Air Force full time. Investigate full time possibilities with your local Guard and Reserve recruiters as well.

4. Signing bonuses are great, but they're just that - Bonuses. Don't pick the job with the biggest bonus, just for the initial money. That money will be gone really quick, and you'll still have to be a sewer truck driver for five more years.

5. Don't sign anything the first time you talk to a recruiter. Go in like you're browsing for a car. Take notes, ask questions, then leave and talk to somebody who knows (like us). Then make an educated decision. You won't regret it.

Hope that helps man, good luck!!

if you need someone to talk to about it let me know. i will be in tampa until the end of the week.

remember a recruiter is only there to get you to sign a paper, so he does not have YOUR best interest in mind.

Nice man, I'm going to be going AF within the next year. I'm going to be spending the next 10 months training my ass off at home, then trying for Pararescue! (my ultimate dream job)

Thanks everyone!

Ceph, thanks for the info buddy. I was kinda iffy about dealing w/ them, as I heard things can be flipped around if nothing is documented.

Aaron, I may be PM'ing/IM'ing you sometime soon.

Thanks again.
