Basically a kid who is looking to join Army Intelligence wants in and he has a prior felony? Will this bar him from getting his Secret clearance? I was pretty sure that it would, but he says he's "talked to people" and they told him he'd have to "work on it". Any help/info would be appreciated.

Any jail time? If he was sentenced to 1 year or more he's out of the running. Even if he didn't serve a full sentence. He could always apply, they may not grant him in interm clearance, but he still may receive it in the long run. The felony flag will cause him a lot of hell and they will look into it a lot deeper if they consider giving him one. Hope he has nothing to hide.

Edit: Intelligence is normally TS/SCI. He won't be able to get that.

I knew a couple guys with secret that had jail time, but not TS.

+1.. Secret is what most of the military has. TS is what intelligence has, and there is NO WAY he is going to get that with a prior.

i would say that a felony conviction probably won't be able to get a ts/sci. any recruiter should have a chart of crimes that are ok and not ok. chart a-c are ok but a pain in the but and chart d is not going to happen. i had assault 3 and it was a chart c.
