um... I'm guessing you have the double + short bed right?
As long as the tail is down, you should be fine. I haven't done it, but with the dimensions, you should be fine.
If you have the long bed, then tail up!

What is it you wanna know? Whether long or shortbed, you won't be able to close the tailgate. With the shortbed though, if you do it enough times and you will definitely bow your tailgate. There is a Technical Service Bulletin out about this and you can get your tailgate reinforced, but it may happen again. Also, if you've got a model year 06 or newer, get the aftermarket D-rings for the bed. It makes tieing your bike down a lot more secure.

I'm shopping for a truck. But yeah, I read the service bulletin about the tailgate. I like the TRD Sport V6 access cab with the 6 foot bed (the 6ft bed is a must for hauling a bike so I see). I see A LOT of the used Tacoma's are the 4 doors and I like the room but I couldn't find a used 4 door with a long bed (at least not yet).

some great prices out there on the Tacoma's.
There is a clutch issue on the 05-07ish Tacoma's as well. Ask if it's had the replacement..

Another thing about towing and the Tacoma's...the rear leaf springs are reaaaaally weak. You can either have them replaced under a TSB, or do what I did and install Helwig Helper Springs. I actually did the helper springs before the TSB came out. Either way, you should be good to go. That's 2 bikes, ramps, canopies and gear for 4 days and no saggage in the rear of my truck!
