Does it really get dark for six months at a time?!?! What is it like living like that?

Not completely. I lived in Anchorage for three years. Wintertime=1.5-2 hrs of sunlight. Summer=1.5-2 hrs without direct sunlight. We used to take an extended lunch hour just to go hang out outside and enjoy the sun. Dark when you go to work at 7am and dark when you go home at 4pm. Took a while to get used to. Dark and cold... Good combo. That's okay, though, as I had an Arctic Cat ZRT800 snowmobile to keep me warm! Sniff-Sniff... I miss the snow...

I live in Anchorage. The sun goes down in the summer at about 4 am and it's up by 5:30. In mid winter you get about 4 hours of light a day but that's only for a few weeks, then it starts staying up longer each day. You can ride from April to November and last year I was riding till Dec. Hell, yesterday it was 85 f. it's not what everone think of when they think Alaska this place kicks ass it's a lot better then California, I lived there all my life and will never go back....:thumbsup

HAHA thats funny Thad, I just had to chime in on this, I lived in Anchorage just about my whole life, until last year I moved down to California, and I think I may never go back to live in Alaska, although the outdoor activities rock! I will be up there Aug 10-22nd though visiting before I ship out to the Navy. Also, did you ever ride with that bunch of guys that met up at Taco Bell on Benson or whatever that road is where the ricers race?

Hey guys
I'm trying to figure out where to move to after school ends this year. I'm really really tempted to move to Alaska.I went on a cruise a little while ago to the lower portion of Alaska and had the best time of my life. My question is this, where would you guys recommend a good place is to go? How hard is it to get a job up there ( since I know most of the towns up there are rather small compared to SoCal so I'm guessing its slim pickings.) Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Move to Anchorage, it's pretty bad ass. It is a city, yes city, of about 300,000 people. Tons of shit to do there, jobs aren't that hard to find, helps if you know someone tho.
