Default Planning to move to Oahu

What's up yall. I've been doing alot of research lately on moving to Oahu. I want to go to college and start a life for myself. I'm 21yrs old and currently work as a painter in florida. I moved from michigan 2 years ago and I do like the sunshine state but I've always wanted to live in Hawaii. I'm will be visiting in Feb for 2 weeks to see how I like it there. If all goes well then I'll start my process of moving and hopefull by the end of next year I'll be makin it happen. But I need some advise from anyone who's been living there for awhile. What's it like to live on the islands? How are the prices of everyday goods? I've also have heard it's expensive for housing so any advise as to where to find a place? How's the job market? Oh and does it take longer to for your bike parts to arrive since ur away from the mainland or does fedex, ups, ect deliver on time. Idk any help would be great, Thanks

Life's a beach here (literally). Good outdoor life and night life, and tons of hot asian women.

Pretty expensive, A gallon of premium gas will set you back about $3.15 and about 5 bux for a gallon of milk. Plus we have a bottle tax so sodas are more expensive too.

All about dorming if you can, A studio will set you back around $600 a month or more w/o utilities.

Slumping, but the tourism industry is the driving force here.

Mandatory 2nd day air on everything, usually comes in about 2-3 business days.

thanx for the info. Gas has been as high as $3.15 for premium here a few times but always drops back down. Milk prices are gonna kill me, I'm a cereal freak at breakfast time lol. I'm searching for quotes on shipping my auto's out there too, seems like I'll be spending around 2k for my car and bike, maybe more if I decide to bring the basic household items. Craigslist.com has alot of ads for people tryin to get rid of furniture and things so I will def be looking on that site if I decide to move. Also I have a friend in the Navy stationed out there so I could most likely room with him for 2 months or so untill I get on my feet with a job and such. (best friend since I was about 8yrs) When I'm visiting for 2 weeks I'm gonna visit some colleges and talk with a realtor to see about housing and what not. Maybe meet with some fellow r6messagenet-ers too. So as for now my savings plan is in effect and hopefully if the cards are right, everything will work out. time will tell.

I agree with your moto and I have one too, it's "go where ever the wind takes you" I don't like to be held down by anything in life, I like to be on my own and free to make my own schedule. You only live once and I believe that if I wait till I'm older to make a move in life then It'll be too late or I'll be tied down. So I'm excited for this and I'm sure I can make it happen. Oh how are the roads out there for rideing and is there a track to play on?

Riding here kinda sux and they closed our track down last year I believe. If you ride on the weekends then it's pretty enjoyable, if not... you're bound to hit traffic unless it's at night. BTW, motorcycle theft is #1 in hawaii so lock your bike up if you want it to still be there in the morning.

are they going to open up the track again? im moving to oahu but thinking about selling my 636 on the mainland and buying a motard or something when i get there. dosent seem worth it to bring a sport bike if theres no where to open it up.

I signed a petition to re-open the track a few months back... though I heard nothing about the track opening up again. Oh, and you can still open it up on the freeways... unless there's traffic

So silly, they want to stop street racing, yet they close the track.

I bought my plane tickets today, American Airlines only $463.00 round trip. Dates are Jan 30th- Feb 13th. Now this isn't the final move or anything just a feeler to see what Hawaii is all about. I'll be staying with my best friend. He's stationed with the navy out there. I'm excited.
