Default Donnington park

Woke up to grey skys but no rain, WOOHOO Donnington here we come.
Got there sets up in a garage (no 5) and met Slowcoach and then to top it off Tim turns up out the blue.
The day went absolutely brillient, the track was wet to drying out on our first three sighting laps, but by the time I went out for my first session it wwas dry apart from Goddards where a novice rider decded to send their R6 down the track and it set alight, the rider was fine but the bike was a right off. Woman it was too.
As the day goes on the confidence is getting better, then 3 laps into my 3rd session I had a slide coming out of the Foggy esses and my arse went big then small I thought mmm take it a bit easier out of there in future.
Had an absolutely brillient session in the afternoon as an instructor come past with another guy, so I latched on the back and held them for another three laps then I had to come in as I cooked my back tyre, it went all soft and squidgy with sooo much power being put down, note for next track day sticker tyres needed) anyways finished the day with my mate timing me and I was doing 2'04's and slightly above for the whole session, still 30 seconds off the BSB boys but hey I think it was ok for me to be a little slower.

looking great there spike! gutted i couldn't make it, but had to do 12 hr shift. no way out of it..

how did the r1 compare with the cbr? did you have to ride a different style? pissing myself off at the 'arse went big then small' comment!!

tyre-wise, from what i've been told the pirelli supercorsas and metzeller racetechs are supposed to be the dog's danglies. they seem to go well, i've only been round on pilot powers but might try these next time..

glad you had a fun day with no accidents

The r1 has loads more mid range power and went really well at Donny compared to the RR.
I tret it with respect and it gave me a great day of racing.
I did not ride any differenty but seemed to carry the corner better as i could braker earlier having getting up to speed erlier so felt more comfortable on it.
With it being a bigger bike too i fitted it better too. Just got to wind the power in instead of just nailing it out of the corners.
Was going to go with supercorsa's next time.
Just been looking at me brake discs as they looked an odd colour and they have gone blue, fook me i know i was braking hard but i did not realise that hard.

Spike, try Metzeler ractecs for tyres, super corsas 9dragons) are different in carcass to to the metz. Metzeler racetecs are the better choice mate.

Deppending on yourbike maybe try running a race style pad in the R1 as opposed to standards, Performance Friction is a pad which we use as the standards would waro the discs eventually. A set for the R6 cost about £70 ish and no-one does discount becoz everyone is prepared to pay for them.

However these are a track only pad and not for Road use, keep your road pads in the tool box to put back in at end of day mate.

Glad the day went well mate

Great pic's Spike, good to meet someone from the forum, hope my mates banter about R6 forum members not having R6's didn't bug you. We where lucky with the weather I found by the end of the day my brakes where fading checking at the weekend found nothing but glazed pads after buying new pads still ready for Brands I suppose. Hope the other guys got the Honda hybred sorted, how they didn't get pulled for noise I don't know.
Look forward to the next one.
Cheers
Mick

No worries about your mate slowcoach.
To be fair i have only owned an R6 for about 9 months, so all banter excepted.
Anyways i was on a YAMAHA at least ha ha ha!!!!!!!!!!!! ok so it was the R6's older brother.

Be good to see some pics from that cam he had it looked the dogs.

You take care at Brands and have a great holiday.

i remember you saying at the nurburgring that you wished the rr had more juice down the straights. sounds like you've made a good decision getting the bigger bike!
