Anything Rustoleum will do fine. I have painted 3-4 sets of race skinz with it and it works perfect.

Ive been there!!!!
Not sure about rustoleum though.... paint is paint I guess. But you're not painting a hunk of iron.
If you're patient and have a little skills, you can make rattle can look almost as good as the 'real thing'. Yes, duplicolor at autozone/advance auto will work.
Scuff
Prepall
Paint
Then if you want you can clear it too. The clear won't cure like 'real' clear does though. It'll be shiny, but it won't last long if you get stuff on it. Like...gas or brake cleaner. will eat it right off. notice you can spill gas on your tank and still wipe it off and it'll look like it never happened....not the case with duplicolor clear.
But hey...it's a track bike!

FYI just because it says "Rustoleum" doesn't mean its only for metal. They make some good stuff and I wouldn't try anything else. I had my first set painted with their high gloss auto paint and it lasted almost 2 yrs before I bent the frame on the bike and everything else. The auto high gloss works best but if you can't find that the normal Enamel works fine as well.

i used about 3 cans of red and 2 cans of black but that was because i painted in the cold and needed more coats than usual

if i did it again in the summer and prepared everything a little better i could get away with 1 less of each

That sounds about right....I think I would use 1 less of each color. I always say I will put on 2 plus coats but I never do...always want to finish and be able to ride lol. Its all in the prep work as always. When you spray put the can in hot water to thin up the paint a little (just don't let it get to hot cause the bottom will blow out....don't ask). Spray 1 coat very lightly....just a dusting pretty much. Then after about 3-4 minutes hit it again, and repeat about 3-4 times. When you spray be sure to pick a corner to start at and work your way back and forth until you have gone across the entire bodywork. This will eliminate practically all the "overspray" look if you do it right.
