Default 07 R1 wheelies.....

So ive finally put some milage on the R1 after all of the rain we have been getting and I must say, it doesnt wheelie quite like I had expected it to.

I had the 2nd gear clutch ups down on the 03 R6 but something is really weird with the 07 R1. Of course this is the first day for me to attempt wheelies since I have passed the break in period but I figured it would take much less RPM.

An older R1 that I had ridden, I could just blip the throttle in 2nd and get the front to float up... Now my front end doesnt come up that easy when im clutching it from 8-9k. Hrmmm, i'll try again tomorrow where I can work on them.

my friend just got an 07 r1 and he said the same thing. he said his old 02 r1 had way more torque it felt like, and would come up way easier. he's had his 07 for about 2 months now i think but he's getting used to it. he let me ride it a time or two and man, that thing is AWESOME

change your gearing and it'll fix the problem.

Well I think the 07 R1 limits the power in 1st and 2nd gear. Part of the YCCI maybe?

I ran into the same prob when I upgraded from an 04 R6 to an 07 R6. I done a bunch o reading and Tetsuo is right, its in the gearing. I dont know bout the new R1, but the new R6 (starting in 06) changed the gearing to where I cant harldy get er up! (no sexual inuendos there). I'm changing out the gearing to go -1/+2 and am told that will take care of the prob!

Reason why is because on the old R1's the HP is much lower in the Tq. curve. If you can believe it or not the R1 hasn't seen any real Tq. gains from the very first one in 98. So you have to be higher in the rev range to get to the power. Plus that pesky throttle lag might have something to do with it.

Old R1's (98-01/02-03) are wheelie machines.

Not to mention on the 04+ models they shifted the position of the engine. The head actually sits below the frame instead of in it, doing 2 things:

allowing them to make the bike slightly more narrow, and pushing more of the engines weight forward and down to help keep the front end down during hard acceleration. It won't wheelie as easy as '03 down models b/c it was designed not to.
