Default "judging speed"

i think its crap that u can get pulled over with a cop judging your speed...i've been told they are trained to judge your speed. like earlier, i was driving my dads truck and was accelerating on the main road cause i just pulled out of the neighborhood and i was probably doin about 35-40 in a 45 zone and a bike cop goes by the other way and gives me the most evil look and waves his hand in the slow down motion....and i was like wtf. /rant

yes...thread is useless....just kinda frustrated me when he did it

That's great ...a while back, I was in court on a speeding ticket where the officer "visually estimated" my speed to be in excess of the posted 55mph zone before supposedly verifying it with his radar. On the stand he stated he could "visually estimate speed with 100% accuracy." I cross-examined him to verify his statement on accuracy and he was adamant that he was "100% accurate" but then added "within 5 miles." With this type of ability, I suppose radars, lasers, etc. are all unnecessary...

Well i will chime in on this a little...I don't really know how civilian cats get their radar certifications but this is how we get ours...They put us on a flightline tarmac with a one vehicle and several radar guns...One of the instructors would operate that vehicle up and down the tarmac and u have to CALL OUT HIS SPEED AND THEN CHECK IT WITH A RADAR GUN...This goes on for several days until everyone is pretty much dead with estimating speed prior to confirming it with a radar gun...Me personally, i just use the radar gun and thats it...This will void the bitching and moaning---"Oh but how sure are you that i was speeding there sergeant?"...

Cliff notes for good ol Stunaz:

Radar guns are only used to confirm your speed...

I don't know how calibrated are the cop eyes these days, but until 1998 that I was a police officer if the gun was not used, and there was a reasonable doubt that the officer had the gun calibrated the ticket was dismissed. We even had to make sure that the gun was calibrated to either low or high with them u shaped frequency calibrators. Do the new radars have to be done like that? I know that the lazers shouldn't.

I don't know if that is a new practice but I'm sure that any judge would rip a new one to an officer that claim that he can estimate speed that way... once again, unless the system has changed so much in the last few years... In that case, then I guess that they should stop wasting money on all the equipment.

Maybe he told you to slow down because you were accellerating too quickly.
