Default It pays to be friendly with local Five 0...

I came off a bypass a little hot today and totally forgot that speed limit changes from 55 to 25...Local smokie was well hidden between two buildings just clocking peeps as they rolled by him, well i didn't realize wtf was going on until i was almost right on top of him...Quick glance at the speedo revealed---mid 50s and my butthole puckered up nicely...When i was about 50 ft away from him, i saw him getting ready to pull out and i knew that i was busted...I jammed my brakes and began to pull over when i saw who was behind the wheel of the cruiser, local borough cop by the name of Steve...I waved at him and got a wave back with a smile...When i passed him, he put the cruiser in reserve and backed into his hiding spot...I know my story is lame but the moral of the story is, make friends with local smokies if all possible...A simple conversation at a 7-11 can pay off big down the line...

I agree, there are several cops here that ride and i always make it a point to BS with them at the local shop or when i see them out and around.
The 2 times I have been pulled over (as luck would have it, not by the cops I know) I have tried to be as level-headed and respectful as possible and it has paid off. Both times were pretty big deals but i pulled over quickly and safely and did the whole yes-sir/no-sir thing and walked away clean(ish). We (sportbikers) need to get rid of this "rebel/wannabe badass" stigma, it is truly destructive to our sport. (If you disagree, keep riding around in no helmet and a t-shirt, natural selection will take its course.)

Last time was out in the country, screwing around trying 70mph clutch ups and an off-duty guy called some buddies and followed us into town and they pulled us over as soon as we were inside city limits for a combination of wreckless driving and suspiscion of riding stolen bikes. I no-shit did not have my GP-Tech's off and a big Vic Mackey looking mofo was yanking on them to put me in cuffs (not nice guy cuffs, the "I wanna fuck your wrists up cuffs-i hate those kind). This is hard to believe but I actually said "Sir, if you give me a minute i will be more than happy to help you get the gloves and helmet off"- no dice on the helmet but they let me get the gloves off. After taking my RX7RR off (carefully) they set it on my tank and i nicely asked then to put it on the ground, they did. Eventually after they figured out that a 160lb white guy was not a threat to 5 dudes with guns, they took the cuffs off, the original officer said he was sorry for all this and just thought i stole the bike and sent me on my way (after catching me doing some really illegal shit). I would still like to think that being the nice guy pays off in the end.
