The story goes, that I was on my way to the gym wearing my Dainese race gloves, Shoei RF-900 helmet, JR jacket, workout pants and tennis shoes. Only had to go 3 miles, it was a summer day, no rain, and it was hot so I put my leather jacket down and wore the JR mesh jacket.
When I was about a half mile from the gym, a Pizza Hut delivery guy decides that stop signs don't apply to him and runs right through it. I see him do it and only had one choice which was to lay my Ducati 748 down and hope for the best.
Needless to say, the jacket tore in places, right at the seams, and then I ended up under the car and the radiator of his Ford Focus burned right through my jacket, shirt and skin. Wouldn't have been so bad, but as I later found out, the jacket is made of polyester, which melts when any heat is applied to it, like say if you slid down the road and/or had a radiator laying across it. So, the jacket melted into my skin. Luckily for me, I was under during the surgery as they scrapped all the dead tissue AND pieces of the melted jacket out from my body.
So boys and girls, why anyone would make safety gear out of a flammable material is beyond me???
