I was wondering the other day what ever became of you Good thread they had going on over on the link you provided. John seemed to be holding his own under some pretty good fire. I liked the crash review link he posted from cbrworld.

Here is a Knox KC2000X1 Tour for comparison. Note the kidney and shoulder blade coverage that is not present in the one above. Also note that the straps on this are not accurate, this is a pic of the one that the paramedics cut off me.

nope they are plastic, and the vg do have kidney protection, just no shoulder.

still havnt had time to ride with them on yet, so dunno if they are comfortable on long rides.

Got another reply from Satra regarding verification of the Velocity Gear certification:

"Certificate 1889 has been issued to a company called Cobija Industries for a back protector reference CI-B- 31121975.

The protector meets the higher impact level 2. I cannot give you specific test data without the express permission of the manufacturer.

The EC type examination procedure requires that we examine a technical dossier (the technical file) for the product and supporting test data to confirm that minimum legal performance requirements are met. In this case SATRA conducted the tests on examples of initial production. The manufacturer is then obliged to maintain the production consistency and quality to the same level. In Europe their is no mandatory involvement of the Notified Body to check any on going production."

Came across this bit about Dainese impact protectors including their various back protectors:

Dainese Protector Info
by Michael Sierchio <ducatista@[EMAIL PROTECTED] > Jul 20, 2004 at 03:27 PM

The following is from the Information Sheet supplied
by Dainese. Note that several of their back protectors
fail to meet even the CE Level 1 standard for protection
(<= 18kN max. avg. transmitted force w/ 50J impact).
Those failing are marked in the first and last column
with "XXXXXX" -- and some are popular items. Only the
RIP 1 and RIP 2 back protectors achieve Level 2 performance.

The Level 1 standard for other protectors is <= 35kN
for an impact of 50J. Level 2 is <= 35kN w/75J, Level
3 is <=35kN w/100J.

All of their back protectors except the new folding model(RIP,Paaraschiena Ridgeable) that meet the requirements barely pass the minimum standard according to these stats.

So what happened to the replies?

Velocitygear, or John Franklin, is it still possible to get some of the protectors at the discounted price?
