Default Shifting?

What is the best way (easiest on the bike) to shift? i usually start in 2nd and give a little gas, then go to 4th, then to 6th. Does anybody else do it like this? Thanks for the help.

You mean you start from a stop in 2nd, skip through 3rd to get into 4th, skip through 5th and settle on 6th?

Well, no, I generally don't do that.

I'll start off in 1st every time (why slip the clutch more than necessary?, I reckon), and then use each of the following ratios in some meaningful manner.
I won't make it all the way up into 6th unless I'm cruising on the Interstate (usually for short distances in order to link good roads), too.

I'm curious as to why that's your method of choice.

i just figured that it was less wear and tear on the bike if you just skipped a few gears instead of shifting a million times. Thanks for the advise

if anything, that's more wear and tear on your r6. change your oil on time and other regular maintenance and you should have no problems for a loooong time. most people total their bikes before they wear them out.

I use all the gears. While cruising around town I'm usually in 3rd or 4th. 5K in third gear = 40 mph.

2000 miles should be good for oil changes.

Can't say I've ever heard of that method of shifting before...

At any rate, don't be worried about wear and tear on the bike from shifting. I know guys that have 30,000+ miles on their bikes and have had no problems with the tranny, and they all shift normally.
