Tunnel tips?
ANybody ride thru lincoln tunnel (NY/NJ)? do you split traffic when it is at a dead stop and u are at the midpoint of the tunnel? do u split traffic as u enter the tunnel? any experience with the popo?
last year i got trapped with buses in front, behind and flanked. when i got out i had CO poisoning- not fun. just wanted some feedback on it. I hope its posted in teh right area cause it does have to do with riding so i figured it would go here.
thanks guys in advance.

Never thought about the exhaust poisoning bit... But then I've never been in a tunnel that long. I guess it might not be a bad call to lane split if traffic's at a standstill, just beware the cops I guess.

Never got CO poisoning because I've never stopped in a tunnel. This is one of those many times when you say F*** the cagers and lane-split.
I've felt lightheaded in my cage after being stuck in one for about half an hour. I'd never survive that on my bike.

+1, I pull in the clutch and throw some revs anytime I ride through a tunnel.
On the serious side, getting CO poisoning is messed up. If I were in that position I'd definitely be splitting traffic. The lanes in the Lincoln tunnel are pretty f'n small if I remember correctly (I used to live in NY). Just be safe and don't do any kamikaze shit where you're going 30mph faster than traffic. Use your horn and/or exhaust to get people's attention.

Ive never even thought about that before. I would definetly split lanes if traffic was stopped in a long tunnel. Especially if i had CO poisoning from it before.

Yo Red 998,
Been there going thru the Lincoln Tunnel... ONe time I almost got caught behind a bus... I moved up to the driver's window, and the driver let me in front of him. It was a HOT July Day... 98!
As for splitting lanes.... Don't do it in the Tunnel or on the Helix! (Remember there are cameras in the tunnel). There are air exchangers to vent the tunnel... The workers have to breathe also. Also, check the traffic reports before you head out to the tunnel. Putt up to the GWB if traffic is heavey... and extend your ride! If the PA don't get you for splitting lanes, Weehawken PD will. I've heard too many horror stories.
Ride Safe!

i feel u bro... in nyc the tunnels are preety bad... just make sure theres no camera mounts and cut. the holland has a lot of camera mounts but rumor has it there mostly duds. I cut lanes a few times never got caught or mail with photos.. only do it if it comes to a stand still.
as someone mention the lincoln should have a lot of those plastic pipes stickin up from the center...
