Default How do you get to neutral?

While coasting to a stop light I found I developed the habit of shifting into first (all with the clutch in) until I stop, then go back up to neutral so I don't have to hold the clutch in while sitting at the light.

Anyone else do it this way? I guess it would be easier to go from 2nd to N, but I always stick it in 1st first and go back up. There aren't any negative side effects this could lead to, right? Other than the extra work my foot does, I mean.

Nothing is wrong with that. I keep it in first or second when coming up to a stop sign or stop light. I try not to stop at all and just creep so I don't have to stop.. You never know, some jack hole behind you might not see you stop..

I've found I don't like to downshift to first approaching a light or something unless I'm stopped or going very slow, a couple times I needed to get the power back on and it's very rough letting the clutch out into first, but very smooth into 2nd. I've only put about a thousand miles on my bike so far though, so I'm not that good with the clutch yet .

As far as just getting into neutral half the time it's easier for me to go down to first and lightly tap up to N, when I try to get into N from 2nd I always seem to go down to 1st since it's so sensitive. Again I prolly need to get the feel for it though.

Yeah, I do the same. Except I keep it in first unless there is a car stopped behind me, then I put it in neutral.

Is it hard for you to go from 2nd to N?
I just pop it in N from 2nd when I'm rolling up to a light, with just a light push, you just have to get a feel for it.

too many times i just pop from 2nd to N and coast to a stop. i guess what i should be doing is keeping it in gear until i get a vehicle stopped behind me. like stphnman said, you never know if someone behind you is going to see you stopped...
