Default read Kieth Code's book!

I killed the time during my airplane flights this past weekend by reading two really cool books. The first one was a biography on Mick Doohan (5-time motoGP world champion), and the second one was Twist Of the Wrist by Kieth Code. Great book, it really lays out the basics of effectively planning corners and making your riding more efficient. It also dispells a lot of the myths and fears that people have while riding. Great stuff!

Soft science of road racing is the shizzle....

I've owned sport riding techniques and total control, but honestly, keith's books especially twt2 and Soft science sum up everythig for me.

Soft science is better than TWOT in my opinion. Sport Riding Techniques by Nick Ienatsch is a very good read too.

Hehe, I remember a month and a half ago when I decided I wanna race bikes.. Showed up at the counter in the bookstore with a stack of books and said "here, sell me a bunch of fast books!".

I found that they all have a bunch of useful information in them, although Keith's books stand out a bit because they're so concise and to the point.

An awful lot of the books out there turn kinda masturbatory and self-promoting (Kenny Roberts anyone?!). If you can get past that trait, most of them have really good info, though the "right" way to ride is probably a little bit inbetween everyone's ideas, to what suits you as an individual the best.

Interestingly much of the emphasis is put on vision skills and line selection, which applies to cars as well (though the line is different in a car, natch).

Code's book(s) seem to spend more time on the mechanics of the machine, which is in part why they're so good.

Agreed....I re-read TOTW2 and Soft Science from March thru October every year to reinforce the good habits and to keep the Survival Reactions we are all suseptible to in mind.. Roll on the throttle smoothly as soon as possible and stay on the throttle to keep the suspension settled. As soon as stop thinking about it, I get sloppy, so it's my mantra on the track.
