Default Shifting help

I have been wondering about the way i shift.. i was riding with a guy who has had a gixxer for a year and was the person who helped me get my bike ... he told me that my shifting sux and i do notice myself not shifting as well as i would like... he also told me i am fucking up my clutch by doing this

while i am stopped sometimes i will rev the rpms with the clutch held down and i release the clutch slowly.... this kind of revs the engine to 4k maybe and will slowly let go into gear.. he said this wears out my clutch... also when i shift i dont' feel like i match the rpms right because they rpms will either be higher when i shift and i hear the engine slow as i release the clutch or the bike slows because i dont' give it enough gas.... it's enver just right

finally my other question is when i downshift i will be going lets say 50 mph i will downshift to 4th or 3rd but i will not give it gas prior to releasing the clutch so i hear the sound of the clutch? as it goes in gear and slows down....

am i gonna destroy my clutch driving like this?

Just keep practicing, you will get a better feel of the clutch and throttle over time. Don't worry about the clutch, it can handle just about anything. And if it wears out, no big deal, they are simple to change and only $100 bucks.

Your clutch might wear out a little faster then when you shift 'perfect' all the time..

From what i read out of your post, you aint abusing the clutch to badly so it won't be a big difference.

you're not really wearing it out too much. You downshift question, you're saying you're not giving it some gas before you let it go into third correct? That does make it wear out a lil faster, also, isn't it kinda hard on you? When i did that, in my car or bike, i hated the big jolt i got from it. I always blip it to rev match, sounds cool too, especially in my saleen :-x.

As the others have said, you are doing fine. It's a little learning curve to get it just right. You are not abusing the clutch too much. Many guys are doing burnouts and clutch-up wheelies. Also, as forumsearcher said, clutches are cheap; they are meant to wear out.

I would echo what darksaleen said, about blipping the throttle when you downshift. When you start taking corners more seriously, this will help keep the engine braking from slowing your rear tire too agressively and causing it to lock up.
