Theoretical weight distribution question
I was wondering on my ride home today whether it would make any difference, in terms of the bikes handling, if you put the majority of your body weight through the foot pegs compared to putting your weight on the seat?
This is a purely theoretical question, (as I am sure it must be best to spread your weight as naturally as possible) but it makes sense that there would be some difference if the load is being applied at a different height, for example; It might not wheelie as easily if all you weight is at the bottom on the pegs!
I wonder if it would make any difference to cornering???

There is videos on the game suzuki TT superbikes and the guy racing is doing a commentary. He talks about when he's riding he's not actualy sitting on the bike, he's riding it like a horse.

I believe its Keith Code that recommends weighting the outside peg when cornering.

I'll have to look it up, but I think that Lee Park recommends weight on the inside peg.

You can't transfer all your weight to a different location just by pressing. This subject is usually discussed as related to changing the center of gravity of the bike/rider. The CG is an average location of the weight of the object. You can change it by changing the location of the bike or rider in some fashion. So, if pressing on a peg or pegs causes the bike or you to move, then yes, the CG will change and the bike can handle differently as a result. If supporting your weight on the pegs results in you rising off the seat (for example), then you've more than likely raised the CG, not lowered it as I think you (the OP) indicate.

Thats some good info!
I might have to try the inside peg thing when I ride home today and see if I can tell the difference!

the question could be better phrased as "what is the effect to the combined CofG".....
the whole "weighting" thing is meaningless outside of the context of the combined rider/bike CofG, and a change in muscular tension does not necessarily mean a change in that CofG. we have argued this before round and round in a few other threads....try searching around and you can find them.
