Default 2nd gear "jump"

Hi Everybody,
I've been riding for about 4 months now, and have noticed that most of the time when I shift into second (using the clutch) The bike kinda jumps up a little. I noticed it mostly happens at higher RPM's, but I never have this occur when I shift to third. Is this normal? am I shfting too late? I usually shift at about 30mph. Thats for answering a rookie question.

Maybe you're not giving it enough throttle after you shift

Are you letting the clutch out hard? Iits probably just your bike trying to wheelie.

+1. Its getting back on the gas before fully releasing the clutch. Its all happening so fast that you don't realize it.

The R6 is known for having a really notchy, quick-engaging transmission. I've been riding my '05 for almost a year now and I still have crappy shifts sometimes. Any time you shift quickly and release the clutch quickly when you're up at high rpm, the forks will unload a bit. You're probably not revving high enough to make it hop in third, but it will do that in third, 4th and 5th if you're way up in the power band

To make things smoother, try revving to around 8k in between shifts. On my '05, that seems to be a good transition point. Don't let the rpm drop too far while you're shifting, try to hold the engine around 7-8k, and then release the clutch. Don't just let it pop back out, that's what makes the bike hop. Release it smoothly taking about half a second to release it. It takes time to get used to, but it will really help make the bike smoother.

yup, however the shift into second is more prone to that sudden catch which makes it feel like a jump than the other gears are, just ease the clutch out and try to match rpms and it's eliminated. It takes time but you'll get used to it, i still do it sometimes to, just a fact of life with the R6.
