Default breaking in the R6

ok, just one more post for the day. so i rode around a bit today (not as much as i'd have liked to) but one thing that kept ringing in my head was - breaking in the bike! the manual says to keep it under 7000rpm, but so far i only went up to about 6000. is there anything else i should know about? shifting gears in a certain way? speed control? downshifting? using the clutch often/less? etc? thanks guys.

Your bike is pretty much borken into now.

Should have, Could have broken it in differently, to obtain a better seal for your piston, rings etc...

Ride the bike hard. Take it to 10k, than to 12k, than redline it. Repeat!
You dont want to ride the bike in the high revs for to long, you want to gradually take it up.

um. are you serious? check it out man. i had no problems at all when i did it like this with mine. kept it under 8k rpms MOST of the time got my first service around 1000 miles. then after that yer good to go. only problem i have now is killing my poor clutch from clutching so many wheelies

oh yeah and it wont hurt to swerve back and forth to scratch up the tires on the sides so u dont go ripping through a turn too fast on a "non broken in" tire. youll feel the back end trying to slide out from under you if u push it too hard through a turn on a nice new tire. just dont do this to it......

just ride it. it won't matter. race teams usually break it in on a dyno.

If you're a new rider, you won't be working the engine hard anyways.

ride it like you stole it from the dealer, change the filter and oil after 20 miles, then keep riding like you stole it and change oil/filter after 500 miles.

what the others above are referrring to is the "motoman" method of breaking in a bike described at moto-man break in secrets.

this is an alternative to the standard method suggested in the manual.
