Question Tall Guy Riding

Ok, I am wondering if I should get a bigger bike because....
I am 6'3 and riding an '02 R6 which is causing me to doubt my riding position (I feel like I am sitting down in a chair and not leaning my body at an angle forward). I have only been riding since last March and this is my first bike and I love it, but I am beginning to wonder if I am just physically too big for the bike. To explain just what my riding position is like try this:

Sit in a chair with feet flat on the ground and lean forward keeping your knees directly under your shoulders, I also ride at the back of the seat off the tank.

That is my position. Is this correct or Ok? When I ride towards the front of the tank I feel cramped and the bike feels loose and harder to turn. Again, not sure if a bigger bike will help change this, thats why I'm asking. Thanks for the help.

Justin

I am only 5'-11" so the R6 really fits me perfectly, I really don't think you can get a bigger bike. The seat height on an R6 is about as high as you can get, the R1 is really about the same size as the R6 (only 1/2" taller)

As far as riding position, you will need to do whatever is comfortable for you, I find myself sitting very close to the tank, it just feels better for me.

the seat height might not be that much different but isn't it a longer reach to the bars on a litre bike?

The R1 actually has a lower seat height then the R6. I'm 6'4" tall. I rode a 03 R6 with no problems. Try pushing your butt a little farther back in the seat. I have a tendency to get right upagainist the tank. I have to remind myself to sit back farther.

well... michael jordan rides... and he owns his own racing team. so i don't think you are too big considering he is 6'6" or something like that.

but then again if he wanted a sportbike built especially for him, i think he might be able to afford that.

I just lean over the tank and if my neck starts to hurt i just rest my hand under my chin on the tank...

good like finding a comfy position, just keep trying new things... and the more you practice a full tuck, the less it hurts...

i'm 6 2" and i sit right up against the tank and i'm perfectly comfortable. i rode a gsxr 600 the other day and the reach for the bars was incredible! i couldn't believe how far it was. i can't imagine riding like that all over town. maybe you could switch to one of those and it'd be more comfortable?
