Default Newb downshift question

What are the advantages/disadvantages of downgearing and letting out the clutch while slowing for a stop light rather than downgearing and not letting out the clutch until in first gear taking off?

Only if he rides it. Just blip the throttle and downshift and then do a search.

I have been blipping the throttle on downshift, funny you mentioned that... seems like it shifts down smoother when you do that

yea....thats the point of blipping while downshifting. its smoother because it matches the revs to the engine speed. this helps in a couple ways:

1. smoother
2. much less chance of locking up the rear tire while downshifting
3. better acceleration off the downshift if you need it
